SMART Technologies Hiring for Inventory Accountant – D310 at Calgary, AB Full Time

Reporting to the Revenue & Cost Accounting Team Lead, you will be a key member of the team responsible for supporting the operations function at SMART and maintaining the cost management aspects of the North American legal entities. This position is responsible for ensuring that the Inventory sub-ledgers, inventory reserves and all costs relating to production and operations are accurately transacted to properly reflect the financial state of these areas on the balance sheet and income statement in accordance with US GAAP. This role ensures the accuracy of transactions to other CoGS accounts for excess & obsolete, scrap, rework etc.

On a monthly basis ensure the sufficiency of provisions or reserves to fairly reflect the balance of all balance sheet and liability accounts for inventory and inventory adjustments. Manage the preparation of monthly working papers ensuring sufficiency of support and explanations for ending balances. Work closely with external and internal auditors to provide explanations for business processes, transactions and how they are represented in our accounts. Provide analytical support to the business on standard costs compared to actual costs and the related purchase price variances, cost savings initiatives, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for planned standard cost updates, review of interim update requirements and maintenance of standard cost system. Includes working with Procurement to determine last purchase price paid, analyzing results, and recommending results including material overhead.

Proficient in calculating weight average costs, using FIFO assumptions in accordance with US GAAP

Provide monthly reporting on the cost of rework and repair. Follow up to understand the impact of the rework on cost of goods sold and ensure it is being reported accurately.

Responsible for reporting and analysis on Excess and Obsolete (E&O) and Vendor Liabilities with collaboration with Operations, Procurement and Pricing Teams.

Responsible for monitoring risk buy purchases to ensure appropriate accounting related to any inventory items

Responsible for consigned inventory tracking for certain products. Follow up and ensure integrity of system and proper usage and accounting of. This includes both consigned (owned by SMART) and consigned (vendor-managed inventory)

Maintains and reports on activity in cogs clearing ensuring sales order activity (cogs side) is properly accounted for

Reporting on PPV by BU, pulling out the impact of FX to determine true PPV. Understand the changes in anticipation of the annual standard cost review.

Maintain related internal controls per SOX

Key player in project testing. Development of test scripts, ensuring full testing is completed and accounting is correct

Backup to ‘other cost management roles and manager as required

Performing other duties as required

Education and work experience

Completion of a recognized accounting designation with a minimum of 5 years post designation experience or equivalent work experience

Detailed oriented; problem solver

Excellent Microsoft Office skills specifically in MS Word and Excel

Significant previous experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an asset

Strong time management skills with a commitment to ensuring deadlines are maintained and achieved

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-departmental meetings.

Self-starter requiring minimal supervision

Ability to create best-practice, efficient processes or work in an environment where there may not be processes to follow
