Teacher of English – Maternity Cover March 2024 – December 2024 (Specialist School for Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia)
A renowned specialist school for children aged 7 to 17 with Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia, is seeking a dedicated Teacher of English to cover maternity leave. The school caters to students with statements or EHC plans, with most pupils starting in Years 5, 6, or 7. Their unique approach to literacy learning, integrating a morphological method into a balanced academic curriculum, has earned us a worldwide reputation for effective teaching methods and excellent examination results.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver engaging and challenging English lessons using a variety of teaching methods to meet the curriculum’s aims and objectives.
• Fulfil form tutor responsibilities, including delivering the school’s Literacy Programme in the first lesson of each weekday and participating in one timetabled driver literacy lesson per week.
• Use EHCP targets to inform lesson planning and meet the needs of all students.
• Plan opportunities for students’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, ensuring the promotion of fundamental British values.
• Monitor student progress and attainment, maintaining written records in accordance with school policies and procedures.
 • Utilise assessment data to support learning, check understanding, and inform teaching strategies.
• Assess student performance using internal and external assessment information, adapting the curriculum and teaching methods to address individual needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement solutions for students not achieving their full potential. • Differentiate learning activities to accommodate the individualised needs of each student.
• Contribute to curriculum development, including creating resources, schemes of work, and implementing the school’s morphological approach to literacy.
• Support pastoral care across the school, with a focus on specific student groups.
• Foster positive relationships with parents and carers, involving them in their child’s education.
• Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students are encouraged to excel in an atmosphere of equal opportunity and security.
• Maintain professional development to enhance subject knowledge and teaching methods.
• Collaborate effectively with the school team, contributing to staff relations and the deployment of staff within the school across upper KS2 to KS4.
• Attend and participate in school events, such as Parents’ Day, Prize Giving Day, performances, and parent meetings. • Attend weekly staff briefings and after-school staff meetings.
• Provide guidance to other staff or adults working in the classroom when necessary, ensuring their understanding of roles and involvement in planning and evaluating student achievements.
• Engage in extracurricular activities, including planning and leading a weekly club, organising trips and visits to enrich the curriculum.
• Develop fieldwork opportunities and participate in the Year 9 residential week in Wales.
• Actively contribute and support school policies and good practice during meetings, staff gatherings, Parents’ Evenings, and training events.
• Undertake any other reasonable activities commensurate with the level of responsibility for the post.
