Finance Governance and Control Specialist

What are we looking for?

Finance Governance and Control Specialist | permanent full time opportunity | Enterprise Finance Team | Melbourne Office

A newly created opportunity is now available to join our Enterprise Finance team in Melbourne as the Finance Governance and Control Specialist. With flexible work arrangements in place and a competitive salary plus bonus, this position will ideally suit candidates with strong financial control backgrounds and an interest in finance reporting processes.

As a key member of the National Finance team your primary purpose will be to provide support for the controllership function, ensuring that a strong internal control framework is maintained. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with both external reporting requirements and the implementation and compliance with the Firms policies and procedures. It will also include supporting the month end close and statutory reporting processes.

Key responsibilities for this role will have you working across two key areas:

Financial Controls and Assurance

• Assisting the Financial Controller in designing the month-end controls and assurance program;
• Undertaking tasks associated with month-end controls and assurance program;
• Identifying process improvements and enhancements in financial controls;
• Creation and maintenance of finance policy and procedure documents, including the risk and control matrices;
• Undertaking ad-hoc project to support process improvements and enhancements in internal controls.

Financial Reporting

• Assisting completion of month end, including balance sheet reconciliations and all tasks associated with month end reporting;
• Preparing ad hoc financial analysis;
• Assisting with the preparation of the annual and half year financial statements and accounting papers;
• Working with external stakeholders, including assisting in the year-end and half-year audit process with external auditors;
• Work collaboratively to achieve team-based deadlines, priorities, commitments and project outcomes

What will you bring?

You have great technical skills and enjoy working with others to deliver results. Key to your success in this role, it is essential that you will be have:

• Degree in Commerce, Economics or CA or CPA qualified
• 3-5 years of reverent work experience in chartered accounting (preferable Big 4 or financial reporting roles)
• Strong financial control knowledge
• Accounting and financial reporting knowledge
• Sound analytical skills
• Open communication (both verbal and written)
• Strong attention to detail, initiative, time management & team management
• Experience with MS Excel and other finance systems

It is highly desirable if you have the following:

• ASX experience;
• SME or large businesses exposure
• Technical skills with Aderant (finance system)
• Internal/external audit experience
