Summary
Simply Solventless Concentrates Ltd. (SSC), a licensed producer of solventless cannabis concentrates, is hiring an experienced finance professional for the position of Controller. This position is located near Airdrie, Alberta.
SSC’s mission is to provide pure, potent, terpene-rich solventless concentrates to discerning cannabis consumers. We are a team of highly motivated and entrepreneurial professionals, and we seek to work with an energetic and entrepreneurial Controller.
The Controller is a leadership position, and the successful candidate is expected to act with the highest level of competence, integrity, and innovation. You are a self-starter focused on exceeding expectations at every opportunity, and you are resilient, adaptable, and strategically focused. The Controller will be an integral team member in SSC’s go-public transaction which is expected to close during Q1-Q2 2023.
The Controller brings to SSC a proven track record of setting and meeting ambitious goals.
Responsibilities
· Accounting;
· Internal controls;
· Payroll management;
· Management of accounting team;
· Strategic planning, financial planning & analysis and the development and evaluation of capital and operating budgets and results;
· Treasury and managing cash flow;
· Investor relations;
· Periodic financial statements, MD&A, and other reports;
· Assisting with corporate governance;
· Leading corporate policy development;
· Establishing core financial processes and reporting requirements;
· Providing input to the CEO and CFO, investors, and management team regarding the financial implications of all major business decisions;
· Assessing financial risks and minimizing them;
· Participating in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives, operating models and operational execution;
· Ensuring the company is meeting fiduciary and regulatory obligations and is compliant at all times;
· Raising capital;
· All cannabis related regulatory filings.
Required Skills
· Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods;
· Ability to inspire confidence and create trust;
· In-depth knowledge of corporate governance, financial law, and risk management practices;
· An analytical and open mind;
· Results-driven personality and a self starter;
· Ability to generate financing leads and close them;
· Expertise in distilling the most important insights for key audiences (i.e. leadership team, broader team), and an ability to initiate and drive change in a way that inspires others to follow;
· Business acumen/strategic excellence with a proven ability to lead executive thinking around financial models and strategy;
· Breadth & depth of knowledge of finance operations as it relates to governance, equity, valuations, accounting, and controls;
· Significant expertise in structuring internal controls, compliance with financial regulations & standards, upgrading / implementing systems, evaluating risk, and managing tax implications;
· Experience managing an accounting team;
· You should have tactical expertise with startups, and the ability to be hands-on.
Requirements
· A background as a Chartered Accountant with public practice experience who has moved to industry, or an investment banker who has moved to industry;
· Cannabis or Consumer Packaged Goods experience;
· Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills;
· The management of accounting teams;
· If you do not have capital raising experience directly, you should have experience in preparing corporate presentations/related materials and the desire and ability to present to investors;
· Public company experience, including investor relations, continuous disclosure, audit, and/or corporate development;
· Experience in FP&A, financial reporting, and capital markets;
· Experience building and maintaining corporate presentations;
· Experience preparing and/or reviewing financial statements and reports;
· Experience in both mature and entrepreneurial companies.
Differentiators
· Experience with investing and dealing with investors and a past history in investing in the companies where you work;
· Ability to access capital;
· Experience taking a company public or to acquisition – and would like to do it again;
· Experience leading finance in a high-velocity, agile, lean startup environment.
This is a full-time salaried position located in Alberta. Periods of overtime will be required.
