Job Summary*

The Payroll Specialist is a results-oriented team member of the Finance and Accounting Department who will be responsible for our payroll and timekeeping systems. We seek a candidate who has proven experience processing payroll in an accurate and timely manner and who is detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills that welcomes employee inquiries.

Duties and Responsibilities*

• Maintain and process payroll in an accurate and timely manner, making sure to reconcile payroll prior to processing and validating reports.
• Serve as the point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries, activities, processes, reporting, and updates. Field and respond to payroll and/or timesheet inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
• Interact with all department management team members relating to payroll issues including but not limited to any missed work hours, missed time punches, late submissions, pay errors, etc.
• Perform actions necessary to track and determine regular pay and overtime pay.
• Monitor and maintain the timekeeping system, and review all timesheets for compliance with all timekeeping rules and regulations including PTO accruals, usage, balance, etc.
• Process and ensure accuracy of special pay and deductions, including but not limited to overtime, makeup time, stipends, commissions, bonuses, benefits, garnishments, 401k, certifying payroll and direct deposit, prevailing wages, etc.
• Process termination and severance checks.
• Resolve issues and answer payroll-related questions.
• Support all internal and external audits and prepare month-end journal entries related to payroll.
• Work closely with the HR Department to ensure timely benefits enrollment and payroll deductions.
• Maintain all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures, distribute W-2, K-1, and process employment verification.
• Stay current and maintain knowledge of rules and laws which govern the payroll administration policies and practices.
• Perform other reasonable job duties as requested.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

• Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail.
• Strong work ethic and ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to wage and hour compliance, in particular California wage requirements.
• Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working with G Suite, Microsoft Office, and accounting software.
• Excellent time management and communication skills.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience with payroll systems.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with a timekeeping system and the integration with an accounting system is a plus

Pay: $25.00 – $37.07 per hour
