Primary Purpose
Medical Review Coordinators are responsible for performing the medical, social, and pathological review of each donor to ensure the safety and quality of ocular tissue recovered, processed, and distributed for transplant, research and/or medical education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Control
· Ensure strict quality guidelines are met by determining donor eligibility according to policies, procedures, and standards set forth by SightLife and relevant regulatory agencies, including but not limited to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
· Perform diligent QC review of all relevant donor paperwork, including but not limited to:
Infectious Disease Testing
· If located in Seattle, WA or Bethlehem, PA where there is a hybrid schedule, perform blood accessioning, and blood and tissue shipping activities at a SightLife lab location.
· Assist remote lab locations in blood sample procurement, accessioning, and blood and tissue shipment activities.
· Infectious Disease result entry into the donor record database and result identification and interpretation, as it pertains to donor eligibility.
Donor Eligibility Determination
· Perform independent, efficient, and accurate donor chart review and processing activities, including but not limited to the donor’s current and past medical records, social history, autopsy results, plasma dilution calculation, and review of infectious disease testing results to ensure the safety of donated ocular tissue for transplant, research and/or medical education.
· Upon completion of training, demonstrate sufficient knowledge to act in the capacity of Medical Director Designee and make a final determination of ocular tissue eligibility for transplant, research and/or medical education.
· Consult with SightLife Medical Director(s) or other relevant physicians to evaluate any medical conditions outside of the scope of the Medical Review Coordinator/Medical Director Designee role.
Additional Responsibilities
· Identify and establish priorities and manage caseload in collaboration with team members to maximize the quality and viability of tissue for transplantation.
· Communicate with other SightLife Operations departments to ensure safe and efficient donor tissue eligibility and approval.
· Respond quickly and professionally to distribution customer inquiries regarding donor tissue, medical history, timing for release, or any transplant surgeon-related donor eligibility questions.
· Collaborate positively and effectively with donation partners to coordinate joint recovery, processing, infectious disease testing, and quality assurance-related activities.
· Assist with internal quality assurance activities, including non-conformance identification and investigation, and assisting in audits and inspections, as requested by the SightLife Quality Assurance department.
· Maintain and advance technical skills and medical knowledge through continued education and training, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the department.
· Perform other projects and duties, as assigned.
· Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of SightLife in all daily activities.

Education and/or Equivalent Experience
· High School Diploma or equivalent required
· Bachelor’s degree in a health- or science-related field strongly preferred
· Experience in eye, organ, and tissue donation or in a healthcare-related field preferred
· Medical background and/or training strongly preferred (e.g., LPN, Paramedic, EMT, Medical Scribe); active licensure is not required
· Experience working with Electronic Medical Records preferred
· 0-2 years of medical review coordinator or related experience
Work Environment
As a hybrid or remote position, employees must have a dedicated, quiet, and secure home workspace. Given the handling of protected health information, performing work outside of the home or SightLife office location will not be accepted. Position requires extended sitting for long durations in front of a computer screen. The nature of this work requires an employee’s full attention and availability during scheduled work hours. Training for this position takes approximately 6 months and is conducted during weekday daytime hours.

Compensation
SightLife has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range below reflects the potential base pay certain regions the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work locations, such as complexity and responsibility of the role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
_Wage Range
_For the San Francisco (SF) Bay Area of California, the range is $27.00-29.22.
For California outside of the SF Bay Area, New York, and Western Washington State, the range is $23.48-25.41.
For Colorado and Eastern Washington State, the range is $21.13-22.86.
