Job Summary:
The Manager of the Software Engineering role is an outstanding engineering leader who has a passion for product experience and can lead a distributed engineering team. Day-to-day, this role will be focused on building and mentoring team members, developing processes, keeping and expanding a technology roadmap, planning features, measuring velocity, and shipping quality products. This leader will have technical experience working in a full-stack environment with previous experience as a software engineer. This leader will need strong OO programming skills and be confident to guide their staff and leadership to ensure that objectives are approached in a repeatable and transparent manner.
To be successful in this role, you should be confident in managing a team while, at the same time, setting goals and timelines for various projects. We also expect you to be in charge of our integrations with external partners and oversee all software development plans from ideation to execution.

Essential Job Functions:

Manage a software engineering and application development team using agile methodologies to accomplish established business and technical goals and conduct personnel duties (e.g., performance evaluations, hiring, and disciplinary actions).

Work closely with team members to utilize in-depth knowledge and skills across multiple software engineering application development areas to provide technical oversight across systems and applications.

Work with the cross-team technical leads to review, analyze, and, when applicable, drive proposed technical solutions for projects, including automation opportunities, reduction of manual tasks, improving technical performance, capacity scaling, etc.

Lead the formulation of strategies, standards, and processes for software engineering, application development and other functional areas.

Ensure essential procedures and processes are defined, followed, and measured.

Monitor whether the teams’ results are still on schedule after each sprint and establish prioritization based on the business needs.

Work to ensure proper communication and coordination between various teams.

Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of the business integrate to accomplish business goals.

Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual data in complicated and unique situations.

Impact the software engineering and application development area by closely monitoring the delivery of results, participating in budget management, and handling day-to-day staff management issues, including resource management and work allocation within the assigned team.

Coordinate with external stakeholders for new integrations and tools.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field or similar experience.

Experience leading team members using the Agile development methodology, including daily scrum meetings, tech estimations, retrospectives, backlog grooming, etc.

5 to 7+ years of developing software as an engineer with experience in distributed systems and enterprise-scale web application development.

Hands-on expertise with .Net or Java, Angular, Node, React, Python, REST APIs, and messaging.

Experience with AWS or Azure a must.

Experience in a software engineering role, with the ability to create & review architecture/design diagrams with the team, conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, etc.

Knowledge of technical integrations using SAML, LDAP, and OAuth frameworks is a plus.

Working in the payor/provider space is a plus.

Leadership skills with taking ownership and guiding individuals as player-coach from technical and management perspectives.
