ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Software Systems Engineer is primarily responsible to ensure that SES satellite ground control software systems and the related critical infrastructure operate flawlessly, focusing on solutions and improvements.

In this role you should collaborate closely with the Satellite Operations and Satellite Engineering teams of international experts, understanding their challenges and building high-tech reliable software systems to keep our satellite operations running seamlessly.

You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list) :

• Ensure continuous system operation and reliability
• Monitor system health and proactively address any potential issues
• Perform deployments of software with a focus on minimizing operational risks using DevOps best practices
• Provide support to the end users, troubleshoot operational issues (software and hardware anomalies), restore nominal operations, and document resolution actions
• Configure computing infrastructure at each of the geographically diverse operation centers
• Develop and maintain scripts for automation and monitoring in both Linux and Windows environments
• Lead software projects and deliver on schedule, anticipating and avoiding problems
• Help automate software deployment and maintain application software lifecycle
• Implement and enforce IT Security measures and best practices to safeguard system integrity and data confidentiality
• Proactively support during working hours and when on-call
• Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies
• Continuously seek opportunities for expanding your knowledge, as well as for process optimization and improvement

YOUR PROFILE : Must Have

Must Have

• Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
• 3 years of experience in software engineering
• Understanding and administrating of Linux systems
• Experience in networking and TCP / IP
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python)
• Mastery of common software tools such as Git and / or Azure DevOps
• Experience in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C#, C++, Java)
• Fluency in spoken and written English
• Authorisation to work in either USA or EU
• Ability to travel internationally

Nice to Have

• Virtualization technologies (e.g., Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, XenServer or VMware)
• Cloud-based infrastructure (experience in Microsoft Azure being an asset)
• Technologies for containerization and orchestration like Docker and Kubernetes
• System health monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
• Knowledge of real-time environments, automation tools (e.g., Ansible) and database systems (e.g., MySQL, Postgres)
• Knowledge in IT Security programs and standards (e.g., IA-PRE, ISO 27001) is an asset
• Effective planning, scheduling, risk management, and communication to deliver on-time

The base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000.00 – $125,000.00 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target salary for new hires in Washington, DC Metro Area. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
