An exciting opportunity is available for a Software Engineer (node.js), with Service Victoria. Service Victoria is an Administrative Office within the Department of Premier & Cabinet charged with simplifying, improving and modernising essential government transactions and delivering customer service. As a Software Engineer, you will be joining a delivery team to provide your node.js, Lambda and AWS skills to develop, maintain new and existing products and help shape the future of the backend supporting our iOS and Android apps at Service Victoria. You will be joining the newly established delivery team responsible for the Service Victoria mobile app used by over 5 million Victorians per month.

The Service Victoria app has become an important part of the lives of all Victorians as we navigate this pandemic, and we have an exciting roadmap planned that will make this one of the most important apps needed for all citizens in our state.
As a modern, outcomes driven technology organisation, Service Victoria is embracing remote first for all roles.
Service Victoria is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Service Victoria team members will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our office. When our office re-opens, this role will have the option to work from the office or remotely from home.
What a Software Engineer does at Service Victoria:
Helps to plan, design, build and support our products
Contribute to product planning by providing authoritative and pragmatic advice balancing technical excellence, business objectives and quality requirements
Help to develops quality solutions to challenging and complex product requirements.
Contributes to the technology strategy, including design patterns, library re-use, testing and deployment techniques
Review documentation and coding written by other team members, and contribute to technical decisions and business requirements in user stories when appropriate.
Participates in a culture of continual improvement and introspection and strives to constantly improve within the team
Proactively keeps up to date with relevant technology, trends, developments, and advancements
Participates in a 24/7 on-call roster for responding to incidents out of hours (our teams own the software the build and are responsible for supporting its operability)
On your first day you’ll have:
Experience developing applications in the relevant programming languages and operating systems
A passion for keeping up to date with development treads
A keen attention to detail and passion for great user experiences
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Great communication and ability to build effective professional relationships with business team leaders, and team members
Desire to learn from others and constantly improve your craft
A well-developed sense of empathy for your customers, both internal and external
