Seattle Waldorf School is seeking an engaging, competent, and compassionate Experiential Education Director to lead an established High School Experiential Education Program and expand it into middle school and lower grades. We are looking for someone who can work effectively as part of a team and independently. We need a leader who understands best practices in experiential education, who is interested in collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches, and who is passionate about working with students. Job Summary: Under minimal supervision, is responsible for all aspects of the Experiential and Outdoor Education programs at the school.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Develops curriculum for experiential learning program
• Teaches outdoor skills and environmental education
• Hires, supervises, and trains experiential education faculty
• Provides risk management oversight and trainings
• Networks with peer schools and partner organizations
• Plans and conducts outreach events for the school
• Plans faculty retreats
• Teaches related courses
• Plans additional programming (summer, breaks, international)
• Models a culture of flexible, continuous learning for students
• Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
• Is familiar and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
• Vigorously engages in professional development through teacher In-Service Days, Preview Days, Review Days, and conferences as determined in conversation with the Grade School Director
• Because safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required* (ideally in environmental education, recreation, or a related field)
• Advanced Wilderness First Aid (WFR or above) required*
• 2-5 years’ supervisory experience
• 2-5 years’ high school teaching experience
• 2-5 years’ school administration experience
• 2-5 years’ outdoor education leadership experience
• Experience at an independent school preferred
• Familiarity with Waldorf education strongly preferred
• Culturally Responsive Teaching experience preferred

*Candidates who do not have a required degree/certificate may be considered with a commitment to complete them within a specified length of time from start of employment.

• Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, Google Suite, Zoom, common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
• Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
• Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor
• High level of physical fitness required to lead and manage students and faculty in a wilderness setting
• Ability to travel on weeklong trips, occasionally back-to-back
• Ability to drive oversized vehicles for up to four hours
• Ability to commute locally (between campuses and local businesses)
• Ability to operate a trailer
