Hello prospective teachers and passionate instructors!
We are Seattle VocTech (SVT), a small, private school in Bellevue, Washington, that specializes in close-knit instruction of primarily high school students. At SVT, we strive to help each student develop their unique abilities and interests. Our approach to teaching and learning is holistic. In addition to providing a standard core curriculum, we partner with students to help them follow their curiosities. By helping students integrate these interests into larger goals, we promote intellectual development that supports real-world goals. This two-pronged approach to learning cultivates each student as an individual with unique hopes and abilities.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are currently recruiting for a math and science teacher to teach Biology and Geometry to a high school student at our Bellevue, WA, office. You would be teaching the student one-on-one in accordance with the APEX Learning Curriculum (https://www.apexlearning.com/ ). You would have tremendous freedom and flexibility in your approach to teaching, and the supervisors are open to you exploring various non-traditional teaching styles and methods that you have found effective. Two other instructors work at SVT as well, both of whom instruct students primarily in various humanities disciplines. One has an undergraduate degree in Physics and also a PhD in Japanese from the University of Washington. The other instructor completed her undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley and previously taught at Bellevue High School. They are smart, enthusiastic, and passionately dedicated to teaching.
Your hours of instruction would be:
Monday: 9am-12 noon
Wednesday: 9-10:30am
Friday: 9-10:30am
Additionally, several private students currently receive online tutoring via Zoom several days per week: two sixth graders on Friday from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, and a high school senior taking Calculus BC at Interlake High School.
THIS JOB IS IDEAL FOR:
1) A retired teacher who enjoys teaching and would like a non-traditional format with tremendous flexibility. You would be looking to work 8-10 hours per week to stay busy in your golden years and bring your experience and passion to our school.
2) A prospective teacher who has recently finished college and is planning to attend graduate school later, but might currenlty be on a break from school, or perhaps is already in school for education and has the flexibility to teach several days per week. Ideally, you would have some teaching experience. Desired credentials: A bachelor’s degree in a hard science discipline such as Biochemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related subject; at least some teaching experience with math and science in a high school setting.
