Summary

Job description

• Responsible for the debt accounting function ensuring robust processes and controls are in place to manage benefit debt and accurately account for this.
• Managing current reconciliation processes and ensuring they are efficient and fit for purpose.
• Development of new debt processes as the organisation evolves and more benefits are fully devolved
• Creation of a robust impairment model for benefit overpayments.
• Working closely with the Error Control and Debt Management Team to improve debt recovery and utilise management information where appropriate.
• Manage the performance of the debt accounting team by identifying and meeting training needs and providing strong leadership and clear direction.
• Contribute to the Annual Report and Accounts process.
• Work flexibly across the team to ensure business priorities are met.

Responsibilities

1. Strong analytical modelling skills and experience, with the ability to analyse complex data and make decisions based on findings.

2. Strong Financial management experience, with the ability to generate, identify and interrogate financial data to support decision making and ensure appropriate accountability while adhering to the relevant accounting standards.

3. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to build strong relationships while providing appropriate challenge and maintaining credibility.

4. Effective people management skills. Must be credible with staff, creating conditions to build confident and effective teams that empower, value, develop and motivate people.
