DIRECTOR, ACCOUNTING

Job Description

Purpose

Contribute to the Company’s success by directing all accounting activities – to include but not limited to general ledger, subsidiary accounting ledgers, preparation of WIP and financial statements. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with the willingness and ability to work hands-on in the accounting department

Responsibilities

Accounting & Departmental

• Provide direct supervision of the accounting team
• Manage the accounting department workflow and ensure accurate and timely transaction processing
• Direct the accounting function through continuous improvement efforts and growth initiatives
• Maintain and improve current internal controls
• Act as department liaison where needed with project managers and other key personnel
• Collaborate with Human Resources for payroll compliance and processing
• Coordinate corporate tax preparation and payments
• Finalize monthly operation reports

General Ledger

• Analyze contract schedule and identify problems or project management errors
• Perform and manage monthly closing processes including preparation of WIP and monthly financials
• Maintain monthly reconciliation and verify all G/L accounts balance on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis in accordance with procedures
• Coordinate and review all account reconciliations with accounting personnel
• Coordinate year-end annual audit schedules and reports
• Distribute and enforce calendar reflecting timeline of monthly and yearly deadlines

Job Cost and Accounts Receivable

• Manage job cost on all current projects in their entirety including job set-up, management of on-going projects and performance of job close-out process
• Prepare 4-month billing cycle and billing variance worksheet
• Perform direct cost entries to all jobs including safety, accounting and insurance allocations
• Manage monthly owner billings and weekly A/R reports. Process cash receipts as they are received and manage any past due receivables aggressively
• Review WIP and financials with the Controller and CFO as part of the month end close procedure

Cash Management

• Prepare daily and monthly cash flow reports and otherwise manage cash position
• Reconcile monthly bank statements

Reports to

• Controller & CFO

Required Experience

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience 7+ years
• 5+ years in a leadership role, supervising work and managing employees
• 5-7 years of experience working in the construction industry, preferably for a general contractor 5+ years
• Sage experience is a must
• Proficient knowledge of WIP and financial statements
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience in lieu of degree

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $114,352.00 – $124,402.00 per year
