The team:
Global Technology Solutions’ (GTS) – Engineering & Architecture team at Scotiabank is focused on building high-value solutions across the bank. Our organization consists of accomplished professionals who blend expertise in computer science, data, machine learning, and banking to deliver innovative projects that drive the business. As an integral part of the team, the Data Engineer will be responsible for all technical aspects of the data pipelines that power advanced and descriptive analytics work.

The role:
You will play a critical part in projects and initiatives across Global Technology Services by acting as a Data Engineer in designing, implementing, and deploying the solutions to meet industry and banking standards and processes.

Is this role right for you?

You understand how design, development and deployment of applications work on Enterprise Data Lake (EDL), supporting an ever-increasing analytics community.

You want to be challenged with complex problem solving in time sensitive situations to reduce system downtime and customer impact.

You are focused on creating high quality code by writing unit tests and integration tests for the software solutions developed.

You are interested in providing deployment and post deployment support (e.g., warranty support, command center services, process, review release content and coordinate with clients.

You thrive on optimizing, organization, and performance improvement of the codebase.

You are interested in troubleshooting and debugging production & non-production environments including certificate management, patch management.

You are eager to work on creating and maintaining alerts and dashboards, access control management and perform system admin activities.

You are interested in logical support work, like configuration, data management, application performance and tuning, application troubleshooting.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

You can demonstrate strong communication (verbal/written) skills. Furthermore, you have good interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal / external business partners & vendors.

You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in developing applications using Apache Spark’s SQL, Datasets, DataFrames & Resilient Distributed Dataset (RDD) API.

You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience with development by using Scala and/or Python and/or Java.

You can demonstrate your ability to optimize Apache Spark applications.

You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in writing and optimizing Hive Query Language (HQL) queries.

You can demonstrate a solid technical knowledge in writing complex SQL queries for any SQL & NoSQL database.

You must possess basic knowledge of both DevOps and CI/CD tools – GIT, Jenkins, Gradle/Maven, BitBucket, Artifactory.

You are familiar with Linux and shell scripting to automate any general admin or redundant tasks.

You possess superior problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve work issues with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.

You have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or any type of Engineering or Mathematics discipline.
