Salary: £31,931 to £34,709 (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £3000 per annum is also available for this role.

The ISIS department within the Science and Technology Facilities Council is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences. Our suite of neutron and muon instruments gives unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale. We support a national and international community of more than 3000 scientists to research into subjects ranging from clean energy and the environment, pharmaceuticals and health care, through to nanotechnology and materials engineering, catalysis and polymers, and on to fundamental studies of materials.
Software is a vital part of all science at ISIS. The ISIS computing division is a growing area and plays a crucial role in supporting the ISIS facility. It provides all of the software needs for our scientists. The Systems Operations group provides web services and applications that are foundational pieces of the software suites used by scientists and users of the ISIS facility.
About the role
We are looking for a software developer to join our team. You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle and will use agile techniques and tools to write high-quality software in a range of server and client-side languages (e.g. Java, C#, React or similar). We provide solutions that enable the scientists and engineers we work with to perform world-class research.
The role is UK based, either at our campus in Oxfordshire, home-based or a hybrid. Starting employment will be conditional on your right to work. Sponsorship may be available if appropriate. Applications will be reviewed as received until the closing date.
About You
You will have a degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject area, as well as experience in web and/or object-oriented development and running a production environment. You will show a proactive approach to problem-solving with excellent written and oral skills for effective communication with our customers. This role requires someone with good interpersonal skills who can explain technical concepts to both specialist and non-specialist audiences and who has a strong customer focus. You will have backend development experience and experience with relational databases.
