SCB Law Firm Hiring for Controller (Law Firm) Job at New York, NY Full Time

This is a full-time position at a leading law firm headquartered in New York, NY. Position is in-house Monday-Thurday, remote on Friday. Salary up to $150k DOE.

Well established mid-sized New York law firm is seeking a Controller to perform accounting functions. This professional will report to firm Partners and work closely with the Managing Partner. Salary will be determined based on experience.

Controller will have overall responsibility for all accounting functions, including the following:

• Maintaining and updating the General Ledger
• Preparing daily and monthly financial reports for Partners on both a fiscal and calendar year basis.
• Periodic Tax Filings, including NYC Commercial Rent Tax and NYS Sales Tax
• Preparation of interim financial statements on an as needed basis
• Calculating compensation due contract attorneys
• Budgeting and profitability analysis
• Preparation of projections
• Performing banking functions including bank account reconciliation and wire transfers
• Knowledge of cash and accrual basis accounting
• Working with outside CPA as needed, including assisting the CPA’s in the preparation of the Firm’s annual income tax returns and year-end financial statements
• Oversee and backup a highly skilled staff of 3 in the following areas:

· Billing

· Cash Receipts

· Accounts Payable

· Trust Accounting

– Other responsibilities described above that may be assigned to them

We are looking for a highly skilled accounting professional who has a minimum of five years of advanced law firm accounting experience. Candidates are required to have a four-year degree, preferably in accounting or business administration. Graduate degree and/or accounting certifications a plus. Candidates must have a high degree of technical skills including advanced Excel and a legal billing system. Knowledge of Rippe Kingston a big plus. Also important are:

– Strong communication skills

– Proactive approach to alerting management to specific problems and suggestions regarding revenues and expenses to firm’s improve overall profitability

– Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities in supervising staff

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $150,000.00 per year
