Software Development Team Lead | Savanta, Cambridge, UK

We’re currently looking for a talented Team Lead to join our 30-strong Technology Team and help us deliver the ambitious and exciting milestones in an evolving roadmap across our full range of products and services.

The Team Lead Role:

As well as being excellent Engineers, our Team Leads lead and manage their cross-functional teams with accountability for project delivery. Teams typically consist of 3-4 Engineers, a UX Designer and a QA Specialist, a Product Manager and a business stakeholder per project.

You’ll get hands-on and see the impact of your work very quickly in an agile environment: our typical project lifecycle is between two and six weeks and, although we often work on initiatives that run longer, we always divide these up into smaller projects and aim to ship regularly. You’ll have the room to learn from supportive and collaborative colleagues, with time set aside for professional development and more self-directed work on a regular basis.

Day to day, your key focus areas will include:

• Providing necessary leadership, management, support, mentoring, and coaching to your development team;
• Project management to ensure your team are able to deliver across a variety of interesting and challenging projects;
• Full stack development, working with distributed systems to deliver a great user experience in the products you build;
• Interacting directly with customers, understanding their needs, and generalising them into something that can address the needs of an entire class of users, be they internal or external.
• Finding ways to build fast, scalable, flexible systems without blowing the budget.

Our Tech Stack includes:

• .NET 5 (shortly upgrading to 6): C#, with ASP.NET Web API, for our mid-tier and back-end services;
• React and TypeScript for our front-end and SQL Server for data storage;
• Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform for hosting and infrastructure;
• GitHub, Azure Dev Pipelines, and Octopus Deploy for continuous delivery.

About You

You’ll be a seasoned Software Engineer with significant industry and team management experience. Ideally, you’ll be based within a commutable distance of our Cambridge office in order to spend a few days with the team per week (or more, if you’d like to). We want you to dive in, get your hands dirty, and figure things out, but also to be someone your team can rely on for help and guidance when they need it in person. The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• 2–3 years experience with C# and .NET, crucial for helping less experienced developers;
• Strong RDBMS experience and knowledge of at least one dialect of SQL ( PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle);
• Exposure to UX work to champion user interface, training materials and supporting documentation as key components of any product;
• Familiarity with modern development practices, and ability to run meetings such as project kick-offs, stakeholder check-ins, and retrospectives;
• A passion for building and improving products and willingness to learn (new technologies, our business and platform, and ways of working);
• Pride in your work alongside comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities in your work environment.
