Summary

Serve as a source of communication for the nursing staff. Perform clerical functions for the nursing department, greet visitors and customers and route them to the appropriate staff. Maintain chart order and assist with resident care when so directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

• Answer telephones and direct all communication at the nurses’ station.
• Obtain new resident information.
• File charts and forms.
• Prepare consult sheets, H & Ps, etc. for residents’ physician’s appointments.
• Perform other related duties and errands under the direction of the DON or ADON.
• Update and print Care Plan Communicator.
• Perform data entry.
• Maintain files.
• Prepare forms for lab and/or x-ray requests.
• Accurately transcribe doctors’ orders for the nurses.
• Take down dismissal charts and enter codes for discharge residents.
• Notify dietary of any changes or tray requests as needed.
• Keep the nurse’s station neat.
• Assist with the daily scheduling of nursing staff as needed.
• Prepare assignment sheets after the nurses make changes.
• Transport specimens to the lab.
• Ensure the doctors have signed all orders and progress notes.
• Order medications, supplies and necessary items.
• Scan in nursing documents into Cerner daily.
• Make copies of the nursing schedule and the 24-hour for managers.
• Practice the proper fire, safety and disaster procedures as set forth by SMC.
• Participate in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
• Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times and violations to the Privacy Officer.
• Understand and comply with the requirements of the Saunders Medical Center’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all Saunders Medical Center-wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
• Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Saunders Medical Center policy and as requested by the Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience

High school graduate or the equivalent.

Prefer knowledge of medical terminology.

Certificates Licenses, Registrations

Current Nebraska CNA registration.

MA registration preferred.

Language Skills

Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions and possess positive skills in communication. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate at the level necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
