Description
Saratoga Forest Management is looking for a responsible individual to be trained as a Boiler Operator ing to the Boiler Supervisor. Saratoga Forest Management is an independent sawmill, located in Saratoga, WY and producing premium grade stud lumber. Our company operates a Wellons 40,000 PPH wood fired low pressure boiler providing steam heat to three double track kilns. We are the largest sawmill in the area and a leading employer in Carbon County, Wyoming.
As a Boiler Operator in this facility you will be responsible for the following:
Job Responsibilities
Safety is a major responsibility of this position. It involves operating the equipment in a safe and conscientious manner, following safety rules and actively participating in safety programs.
Operating and maintaining the biomass boiler and controls, fans, pumps, and similar equipment as necessary.
Maintain records of regular checks and maintenance of boilers and associated safety equipment
Assist the Boiler Supervisor or maintenance team in routine maintenance and repairs as necessary to keep the equipment operating at optimal efficiency.
While working 2nd or 3rd shift or weekends the operator is the only person at the boiler plant and has the responsibility of monitoring and trouble-shooting all facets of the boiler operations necessary to provide continuous, safe and efficient operation of all the equipment providing the steam to the kilns.
Assist in maintaining a high level of safety and housekeeping effectiveness.
Required Skills
Ability to learn and maintain a thorough understanding of the operation and control of the boilers and kilns including computer controls, water testing, water flows, the functioning of the softeners, transfer pumps, and feed water pumps.
Strong decision making skills and ability to respond to a complex set of circumstances.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to effectively assist in maintenance and repairs including skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trade.
Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
Must be able to calculate various measurements using basic math skills.
Ability to meet physical requirements of the job including standing, climbing, bending, and lifting occasionally up to 75 lbs or more. Exposure to ambient temperatures, ability to work in tight spaces or at heights up to 80 feet. Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.
Required Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of work history with a demonstrated ability to operate in a position of responsibility.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience with the operation and control of the boilers, boiler plant system or similar equipment.

Position Type
Full-Time/ rotating shifts to cover 24 hours/7 days a week. There are frequent opportunities for overtime.
Salary
$14.00 – $17.00 per hour depending on experience. Position includes full benefits after 90 days. This position has the opportunity to earn a 20% weekly bonus for meeting production goals.
