JOB SUMMARY
Under direction, plans, organizes and supervises professional accountants and specialists performing routine to complex professional accounting, purchasing and payroll duties in the analysis, preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports; provides professional advice to management on financial policies, procedures and proper internal controls; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for supervising staff performing a full range of complex, proÂfessional accounting, purchasing and payroll analysis in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports and systems for the District; researches issues, performs complex financial analyses, and manages the prepÂaration of comprehensive reports. Work provides a basis for sound operational and financial planning through financial review, analysis, monitoring, reconciliation and maintenance of financial accounts, programs and activities. Assignments are broad in scope, requiring signifÂicant independent decision-making and impact on department success.
This position typically reports to the Controller and supervises the work of accounting, purchasing and payroll staff. The AccountÂing Supervisor is distinguished from the Senior Accountant in that an incumbent in the latter class performs a full range of complex, professional accounting and analysis in the preparation and maintenÂance of financial records.

QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education, Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting or a related field, and at least six years of progressively responsible experiÂence in profesÂsional accountÂing, two of which were at a supervisory level, preferably in a government agency or utility. Experience in a public agency is preferred.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance program. Possession of an active California Board of Accountancy (CPA) License.
