The Opportunity
Manufacturing Engineering Technologist is responsible for the timely diagnosing/troubleshooting nonconforming production units, boards and subassemblies to support system manufacturing in a fast paced production environment. The incumbent is also responsible for hands on board level repair or coordination of repair with CMs and providing recommendations for material disposition. The role is the primary source of feedback to assembly operations and hardware design to continuously improve product yield and manufacturability. This is accomplished through continuous development of troubleshooting/repair methodologies, troubleshooting trees, systematic root cause analysis and feedback to product engineering/new product design/operations.
The Job
Participating in daily production meetings to understand production priorities and scheduling work accordingly
Support production on weekends/holidays as required
Communicating material disposition to Operations management
Coordinating repair and/or return to vendor at contract manufacturers
Interfacing with Quality Management to issue supplier corrective action requests (SCAR’s) and Procurement team and Return to Vendor (RTV)
Providing feedback to assembly operations and procurement teams to drive continuous yield/manufacturability improvement
Providing mentoring and training to assembly staff to support improvements in product yield/manufacturability
Assessing test results, troubleshoot boards/systems/subassemblies
Supporting new product ramp in prototype builds, debug, repair and analysis to expedite time to stable production
Hands-on repair (including fine pitch hand soldering)
Working closely with the material handler for any material requirements
Working with vendors at times discussing quality issues
Provide support to CM and vendors
Performs other duties as assigned
What Skills You Bring
1 year experience or related co-op placement
Prior experience in a hardware manufacturing environment, preferred
Working knowledge of CAD tools, schematics, drawings, specifications
Excellent teaming and collaboration skills
Demonstrated board debug and repair skills (scope, diagnostics, hand soldering) Experience in telecom industry would be preferred
Ability to work in a fast paced, production environment
Electronic Engineering Technologist or equivalent
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Experience in electronics and computer components
Demonstrated trouble-shooting and analysis skills
Working knowledge of yield management methodologies, RCA, 8D, MED, PCN, ECO
