What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a Engineering Support Technologist in the Active Ceramics Value Stream department. The AC Production Process Technologist will be part of a manufacturing team and will be responsible for processes and associated equipment used to manufacture and test AC components. You will be the primary technical interface to the production operators and will be expected to work closely with the broader team to ensure a thorough technical understanding of assigned processes, to successfully develop and qualify new equipment and processes in your assigned areas, and to help with problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
Part of the day-to-day responsibilities associated with ensuring on time delivery of product will include: initially diagnosing any process nonconformances, monitoring process health, identifying ways to increase yields or decrease span times, and mistake-proofing the processes. As issues are identified, you will recommend and implement corrective or preventive actions. You will have responsibility for maintaining written work instructions and ensuring proper training to those instructions, which may include training co-workers as needed. As manufacturing demands permit, the candidate will be expected to seek out and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement across the Active Ceramics Value Stream department.
Qualifications We Require

Associate’s degree in Ceramic, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, Material Science
- Desire to work hands on in a fast-paced, schedule driven, high-rigor production environment
- Experience/coursework in ceramics and ceramic manufacturing, and/or ceramics tester equipment
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Experience working to written work instructions with particular attention paid to safety significant instructions
- Experience troubleshooting and providing technical support for equipment used in processing, assembly, and testing of ceramic components
- Experience with inspection processes, including microscopy
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work in a diverse team environment and collaborate to solve problems
- Demonstrated ability to monitor process health and conduct problem solving analyses
- Strong technical communications skills, both verbally and written via Microsoft Office; experience creating work instructions, operating procedures, or equivalent
- Experience with process improvement, including a Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
- Commitment to a culture of safety and security
- Experience transitioning products and equipment from conceptual design and development to full production
- Current/Active DOE Q Clearance
About Our Team
The Active Ceramics Value Stream Department at Sandia National Laboratories provides a broad range of processing options for many types and compositions of production and prototype ceramic powders and components. Our capabilities range from chemical synthesis of powders and glasses, through powder processing, billet formation and machining, to complete component fabrication and testing.
