Sanctuary is seeking an exceptional Robotics Design and Manufacturing Engineer to be part of our team.

We are looking for a Robotics Design and Manufacturing Engineer to work on a diverse range of complex projects in support of Sanctuary’s push towards building machines with general intelligence. Your day to day work will include developing prototypes that allow us to test new ideas in AI and robotics and working with technicians and engineers to optimize manufacturing and repair. You will be pivotal in building our next generation of robotic hardware, and getting the most out of our current system. To thrive in this role, you will need to be versatile and enthusiastic about tackling complex robotics projects.

Responsibilities

• Designing and optimizing robotic parts and assemblies in Onshape (e.g. hands, arms, face, neck and torso)
• Gathering and synthesizing low level design requirements from high level functional requirements
• Working with other members of the team, and the project lead to determine the best path forward
• Solving robotics-specific research and engineering problems as they arise
• Designing innovative mechanisms with tight packaging constraints
• Creating documentation and assembly instructions for your designs
• Making drawings and managing the machining process
• 3D printing and assembly of prototypes
• Implementing improvements and design changes to existing parts
• Assembling and testing prototypes
• Helping technicians with assembly during times of peak production
• Designing tools and manufacturing equipment to improve the speed and efficiency of production and maintenance

• You are a skilled mechanical designer with complex and innovative projects in your design portfolio
• You are familiar with all stages of the manufacturing process, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and GD&T
• You should be a creative problem solver who is fascinated by the way animals and machines move
• You would rather work on robots than do pretty much anything else
• Taking on a global-scale challenge that could create fundamental change appeals to you
• You work and communicates well with others
• You are deadline and detail-oriented

Minimum Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, a related technical field or equivalent experience
• At least 5-8 years of 3D CAD experience
• Related technical projects in a portfolio or personal website
• Experience with the specification and analysis of gears, actuators, bearings, etc.
• Experience design automated manufacturing machines, and assembly tools
• Experience with prototyping, robotics, mechatronics, machining, and 3d printing
• Experience with manufacturing, drawings, and GD&T
• R&D experience
• Experience designing complex moving mechanical assemblies

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent further education
• Experience with Onshape for 3D CAD design
• Experience working on high DOF robotic systems
• Experience with haptic sensors
• Experience with wheeled vehicles
• A passion for AI, and in particular understanding how general intelligence works
