San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Hiring for Accounting Supervisor, Tribal Finance Job at Highland, CA Full Time

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for supervising the operational activities of the General Ledger team. This position assists in creating and maintaining internal accounting policies. The Accounting Supervisor prepares, reviews, reconciles and processes general ledger activities for various entities. The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for analyzing various processes and working toward continuous process improvement. The Accounting Supervisor is also responsible for keeping the Accounting Manager updated on all issues that require escalation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. Provides budget variance explanations to the Accounting Management.

2. Reviews Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants’ daily and monthly work. Reviews and provides guidance on journal entries, work papers, reconciliations, and reports.

3. Provides strong leadership for General Ledger staff members by increasing skill sets, maximizing productivity to optimum levels.

4. Manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure that there is redundant process backup in place for every critical operation.

5. Assists in all month-end/year-end general ledger activity requirements within assigned timeline. Assists with internal/external audit needs.

6. Works with the Accounting Manager to develop and implement policies and procedures, short and long-range goals, objectives and plans that affect the General Ledger area.

7. Address problems with work quality, issues between employees and other concerns in an effective, timely manner.

8. Delegate work to employees, track progress and provide constructive feedback.

9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department or that contribute to the mitigation or response to any public health emergency.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from a four-year college or university is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience working in general accounting within an Accounts Payable environment.
• Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
• Must have experience in the month-end close, excellent attention to detail as well as strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
• Must have a demonstrated experience with accounting software and a comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; Lawson experience or similar financial software is preferred.
• Experience working in the following areas: casino, hospitality, construction and tribal government is preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

• At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
• A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.
