San Juan Island Outfitters Hiring for Bike Mechanic / Facilities Supervisor at Friday Harbor, Washington Full Time

San Juan Outfitters (SJO) is looking for a Bike Mechanic and Facilities Supervisor for the Summer of 2023 and beyond. This person will be primarily responsible for maintaining SJO’s fleet of road bikes and e-bikes, approximately 35-40 bikes in all. Other job responsibilities will be maintaining all gear used on expedition trips, such as; tents, stoves, sleeping pads, etc. This person will work closely with the Program Directors at SJO, helping them with all tasks related to maintaining gear and prepping trips for the approximate 200 overnight trips that SJO runs each summer. 

Approximate Job Breakdown: 

• 65% Bike Maintenance 
• 20% Helping Program Directors with a Variety of Tasks i.e. boats moves, bike deliveries
• 15% Gear repair and Warehouse Organization/Cleaning

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Maintaining the fleet of bikes. This will include spinning bikes before and after each trip to ensure that they are in proper working order for the next guest
• Assist guides with bike fitting for guests
• Respond as needed to in-field repairs
• Teach guides about the following: 
  • Basic bike maintenance i.e. how to change a fla
  • Bike mechanics
  • Rules of the road
• Maintain cleanliness of The Gear Warehouse
• Assist managers in various tasks i.e. boat moves, bike deliveries, etc. 
• Maintain all gear used in operations i.e. patch holes in sleeping pads, fix broken tent poles, repair Coleman stoves, etc. 
• Other duties as assigned 

Required Skills: 

• Must have previous experience maintaining bikes, preferably in a bike shop
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong communication 
• Must be able to work independently with little direction 
• Cleanliness 
• Previous experience maintaining outdoor gear is a plus
