Overview
Under general supervision performs the more difficult professional
casework services; provide specialized services; provide
consultation services to subordinates, graduate students and other
staff.

Project RISE UP: A program focused on providing
resources and supports for San Diego Unified School District
students and families experiencing homelessness. The social worker
will oversee the implementation of the goals of Project RISE UP
by:

Resilience building in schools through tutoring
and professional development focused on trauma informed care
practices that foster students’ resilience;

Increasing awareness of the rights and needs of
students experiencing homelessness among schools and community
agencies;

Streamlining and expanding support to youth and
families by strengthening partnerships with community partners, as
well as key departments within the school;

Expanding outreach efforts to increase enrollment
for PK-12, with an emphasis on preschool aged children that are
experiencing homelessness;

Upgrading the coordination and distribution of
supplies to students in need; and,

Policy and procedures clarity and training in
order to provide excellent level of services to youth and families
experiencing homelessness

Responsibilities
The social worker (MSW or LCSW) coordinates student services
through the San Diego Unified School District’s (SDUSD) Office of
Children and Youth in Transition (CYT) and Mental Health Resources
Center (MHRC). The candidate will actively provide leadership and
expertise in connecting with families and collaborating with
department and community agencies to meet the needs of students
experiencing homelessness to facilitate success in school.

PLANNING/SUPERVISION (37%)

• Create a welcoming and joining climate for all multi-ethnic and
  linguistic parents.
• Serve as a field instructor with San Diego State University
  School of Social Work, or other universities.
• Collaborate with the CYT staff and SDUSD key departments to
  coordinate support services for students and parents.
• Collaborate with existing school programs and other agencies
  through the Community Collaborative.
• Collaborate with other school staff to coordinate support
  services for students.
• Attend and/or facilitate monthly social work meetings and other
  meetings as assigned.
• Overseeing the work of SDUSD hired community assistants who
  will be supporting the implementation of the goals of Project RISE
  UP.

PROVIDE COUNSELING/THERAPY (35%)

• Assess students for mental health issues and complete intake
  process with students/families.
• Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
• Provide referrals to resources and case management to students
  and families.
• Provide crisis intervention.
• Develop relationships between home and school, and with health
  and social service programs.
• Facilitate support groups on topics such as self-esteem groups,
  social skills, anger management, etc.
• Provide prevention and awareness activities to the entire
  school community.
• Provide SEL presentations and activities to the entire school
  community.
• Provide classroom presentations on prevention related
  topics.

DOCUMENTATION/DATA (20%)

• Monitor quality and timeliness of program documentation.
  Provide input to program management on programmatic issues.
• Assist in implementing a yearly needs assessment and outcomes
  report.
• Responsible for data collection, evaluation, measurement of
  outcomes of social work programs and services.

COMMUNICATION (5%)

• Provide a social work perspective and advocate for students in
  meetings such as CYT Team Meetings, the Problem-Solving Team,
  Attendance Action team, and other multidisciplinary teams.
• Coordinate community agency resources on school site.Assist
  parents to access and sustain community resources and
  services.

OTHER DUTIES (3%)

Qualifications
Minimum Qualificatons & Education

• 3 or more years of professional social work experience
• Master’s Degree, preferably social work, public health,
  counseling or education
• Registered with California’s Board of Behavioral Sciences as
  ACSW or ACSW in progress

Desired Qualifications

• 2 years of experience with community agencies for student and
  parent support .
• Previous experience with academic, home-school linking, health
  and human service programs.
• Previous experience with Refugee and Asylee resources
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, other
  languages
