Research Specialist III
Req No: 2022-14617
Category: Research/Project
Type: Full-Time Contract
Salary: $5200.00 per month
Close Date:
Overview
In this DOD/DOE funded project, a team of scientists and engineers
from academia, national labs and two private companies will perform
the fundamental science necessary to understand the underlying
biological principles of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) scavenging at
extreme conditions to enable bioinspired methods for recovering
REEs. REEs are critical metals of the modern high-tech boom and are
widely used in electronic devices. Due to the growing demand for
REEs, novel solutions to efficiently recover the minerals from
ores, mine tailings, and geothermal brine in a commercially viable
and eco-friendly manner are urgently needed. Microbes have mastered
the selective uptake of REEs under a variety of environmental
conditions. The positions will be part of a large multidisciplinary
research project that aims to gain a greater understanding of the
principles of REE selection, sequestration, and accumulation in
extremophilic microbial systems.
The Research Specialist will curate a multi-disciplinary and
multi-institutional research program at SDSU and serve as a liaison
between the team, external partners and program directors. The
Research Specialist will assess the scientific progress of each
partner, manage the implementation of research activities necessary
to complete the project tasks and meet the R&D milestones in a
timely manner, compile and draft progress reports and organize team
meetings. The Research Specialist will provide leadership and
communications to ensure the efficient operation of each partner.
The successful candidate must be team-oriented and task-driven and
be able to identify and develop methods, plans, and documentation
to streamline project-specific operating procedures (such as
EH&S, Export Control, CUI and IP management), reports, and
systems to ensure regulations and controls are followed. Ensure
that all project members have completed the initial mandatory
trainings and an annual cybersecurity awareness training.
Coordinate with the SDSU IT Security and EH&S Offices on any
incidents and responses.
