Position Summary

The Information Technology Security Office (ITSO) is part of the
Information Technology Division (ITD) reporting to the Chief
Information Officer (CIO). ITSO provides campus-wide core
technology and security services, collaborates with university
departments, auxiliary organizations, CSU Chancellor’s Office,
other CSU campuses and other external organizations to provide
support of core technology and security services.

The Information Security Analyst is a member of the information
security team and is primarily responsible for development and
evaluation of appropriate security practices for desktop and server
operating systems, databases, and cloud services.

The Information Security Analyst will be a primary point of contact
for the collection and monitoring of operating system and
application security event logs; this position will lead efforts to
monitor, identify, and communicate vulnerabilities discovered on
campus systems.

The Information Security Analyst will assist with developing and
deploying incident response plans and cybersecurity procedures for
information technologies. This position will have effective change
management and project management skills to successfully lead
assigned projects and provide effective customer service.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible,
permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt
under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. standard
SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but
may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in
San Diego.

Education and Experience

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and
skills in operating systems programs, maintenance, and systems
administration features is a prerequisite. This foundation would
normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in
computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field, or
equivalent technical training and/or experience. Foundation
knowledge and skills for the Operating Systems Analyst include a
working knowledge of the assigned computer operating systems,
systems analysis, and systems-level programming.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to use performance-monitoring software and interpret
  results including vulnerability scanners, web application scanners,
  and other tools to establish the security posture of systems.
• Experience provisioning, managing, and securing systems in
  public cloud environments.
• Experience performing patch management for enterprise
  systems.
• Knowledge of web application vulnerability management concepts,
  including web application programming errors that lead to web
  application vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10).
• Foundational knowledge of security controls part of a security
  framework, or regulation. For example, PCI-DSS, NIST, or CIS
  Critical Security Controls.
• Experience performing and documenting risk assessments.
• Experience performing forensic investigations and incident
  response.
• Experience working with reporting systems and developing
  reports and dashboards.
• Experience in development and administration of policies,
  procedures, and standards in the support of an information security
  program.
• Experience within higher education providing technical support
  and customer service.
• Information security certification(s) such as Security+ or
  equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with coursework
  in computer science, information systems, instructional technology,
  information technology, communication, or equivalent
  certifications/experience.
• 3 years of experience performing systems administration duties
  including the foundation skills required for the design,
  installation, and operation of physical and virtual server and
  storage infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience with high-level system hardening as
  well as vulnerability detection and mitigation techniques.

Specialized Skills

• Incumbent will be expected to seek continued professional
  development regarding advancements in technology and best practice
  in higher education environments

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed
$8,750 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and
qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal
equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. San Diego

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,678-$11,547 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide
policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated
against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption
in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully
vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine
or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.
Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be
considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit
their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s
secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals
with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the
university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19
testing program.
