Sampson Regional Medical Center Hiring for Director of Medical Surgical and ICU Full Time

Effectively leads and is responsible for Departmental oversight. Responsible for achieving departmental goals and collaborating to achieve Organizational goals. Responsible for coordinating all activities for the Department. Responsible for planning, directing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of the Department’s patient care and operations. Knows and strives to meet requirements set by regulatory agencies. In cooperation with Administration, other department leaders, and others (as needed), shares responsibility for intradepartmental planning, program development, standards of care, and integration of services.

Sampson Regional Medical Center (SampsonRMC) has served its community since 1950 and is now one of only a handful of independent, community-based hospitals remaining in North Carolina. The healthcare facility serves as an academic training center for medical students, interns, and residents. The selected candidate will to the Chief Nursing Officer and will manage the daily operations of the Medical Surgical department and ICU department. The selected candidate will lead patient satisfaction initiatives, manage performance improvement initiatives, manage the department budget, facilitate department meetings, develop staff competencies, and participate in leadership meetings.

Responsibilities of the Director of MedSurg/ICU

Professional Responsibilities

• Has knowledge of and appropriately utilizes chain of command.
• Acts as a resource for and extension of the CNO and Administration
• Assists at the Departmental and Organizational level to ensure quality patient care
• Evaluates the patient care provided in Department and alerts appropriate personnel when there are concerns.
• Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.

Fiscal Responsibilities

• Anticipates department needs relative to finances, space, and resources
• Manages personnel resources and adjusts to changing work-load, staff absence, and other needs within the parameters of staffing targets and expectations of the patient
• Responsible for fiscal oversight of the department to include but not limited to budget development and performance, expenses, revenue, contribution margin and productivity s

Patient Care and Advocacy

• Maintains a strong clinical knowledge based and high level of clinical competency; Keeps current with best practices
• Leads departmental process improvements/participates in and/or leads in Organizational process improvement projects
• Identifies areas of clinical growth for staff and initiations or coordinates strategies for improvement
• Ensures all staff have or obtain the appropriate skills for the patient type in area of responsibility

Requirements of Director of MedSurg/ICU

• Education/Registry: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed by the NC board of Nursing; BSN required or equivalent experience. Master’s Preferred. BLS required within 30 days of employment. ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of employment.
• Experience and Training: Prefer at least Five (5) years of hospital acute care experience and at least three (3) of leadership experience
• Special Qualifications and Job Knowledge: Ability to implement change in a positive and forward thinking manner. Effective organizational, planning and project management skills. Broad knowledge of modern health care administration practices.
