Applicants must have experience of the following:
Desirable
* Significant engineering experience in the delivery of Major Capital Programmes with knowledge and skills transferrable to the GDF programme.
* Extensive experience in developing a scope of works and undertaking the specification, management, and oversight of contracts for design.

* Develop awareness of all relevant legislation appropriate to scope of work and delivery of the GDF. Sound understanding (or able to develop) of relevant health and safety legislation including CDM regulations.
* Construction Skills Certification Scheme professionally qualified person or similar card holder
Role information:
Plan and lead the development of engineering design
* Supports the Head of Engineering through contributing to and implementation of the engineering strategy and development of engineering and environmental assessment as a whole.
* Develops the engineering design programme in own area of scope and supports the Head of Engineering by contributing to the development of the overall programme and integration of the engineering design.
* Manage delivery of engineering outcomes that comply with UK legal requirements and relevant business cases.
* Lead the engineering design and integration in the development of systems falling within area of scope; developing solutions that meet the relevant functional, regulatory, and other non-functional requirements.
* Responsible for providing engineering design, programme, and cost information within their area of scope required to:
o Establish control plans for scope
o Underpin GDF-related business cases.
o Evaluate potential sites for a GDF.
o Underpin site characterisation information needs.
o Underpin the major permissions for a GDF.
o Inform decisions, including disposability assessments.
o Identifying areas of design development which need further technology development and demonstration.
o Identification, management, and evolution of risks and opportunities and subsequently advising on relevant mitigations and actions.
* Monitor and audit supply chain performance in delivery of scope
* Ensure design evolution and decisions are recorded and auditable
* Ensure timely presentation of design outcomes to meet programme milestones within any relevant delivery constraints
* Develop or hold a sound understanding of the complete design lifecycle to ensure development of an appropriately risk informed design.
* Develop foresight for scope area to appropriately inform innovation and opportunities in developing solutions that will be implemented over many decades.
Technical Authority
* Delegated Design Authority responsible for providing authoritative advice on systems falling within their area of scope.
* Responsible for acting as a senior company representative at national and international fora and events.
* Responsible for engineering input to waste management (including disposability assessments) and siting and engagement within area of scope.
* Develop understanding of how analogous nationally significant infrastructure projects, high-hazards engineering programmes and organisations have developed design solutions and their applicability to the GDF
* Responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating engineering knowledge in areas of scope and for ensuring that the knowledge base in these areas remains accessible.
* Develop and maintain awareness of total GDF Programme scope for the purpose of facilitating stakeholder engagement, and integration of the design
Develop capability and lead a suitably qualified and experienced team
* Develop the capability (people, process, tools and culture) required to deliver the engineering programme.
* Promote a diverse and inclusive environment to the benefit of the individual, team and wider organisation.
* Lead and manage team of ensuring they are suitably qualified and experienced and maintain appropriate professional standards and qualifications
* Support Head of Engineering in ensuring sufficient engineering resource is available to deliver the programme, identifying gaps and preparing and implementing plans for addressing them
* Performance Management, including measurement and improvement of self and team, goal, and priority setting
* Recruitment and selection of personnel
* Develop competency evaluation criteria for scope and support assessment of competence across business for areas within their area of scope, and across engineering for all aspects of engineering.
* Supply chain engagement and selection
* Absence and Welfare Management
Intelligent customer and supply chain management
* Responsible for obtaining engineering design solutions through the supply chain that satisfy the requirements of the technical programme within their area of expertise.
* Responsible for leading Senior Engineering Managers and Engineering Managers in their roles as Intelligent Client for engineering design services.
* Supports the Head of Engineering and Environment in ensuring sufficient access is available to the supply chain capability required to deliver the programme.
