MeeToo Education is a social enterprise. Our mission is to provide mental help to everyone, everywhere. Our first product is MeeToo, a multi-award winning mental help app which provides pre-moderated, anonymous peer support to young people aged 11 – 26. MeeToo has 65,000 registered users and is featured on the NHS Apps Library. MeeToo integrates the latest psychological research into digital peer support, a scalable social interaction which promotes recovery, self-esteem and mental and physical wellbeing.
MeeToo is anonymous, which makes it easier to be honest and ensures inclusivity; 40% of our users are boys who are notoriously difficult to reach. The peer support model makes MeeToo scalable, pre-moderation by humans keeps it safe. MeeToo provides emotional support to people who are worried, anxious or dealing with more severe mental health issues such as eating disorders, self-injury, depression or suicidal ideation. In May 2020 we launched the MeeToo Directory which promotes the best services, apps, books, videos and products available to help young people manage their mental health and wellbeing.
In a recent survey of 1,000 MeeToo users 94% found MeeToo helpful and 92% said that anonymity made it easier to be open about their issues. 98% confirmed MeeToo is a supportive community and 91% found that helping others helped themselves to feel better.
MeeToo is an alumni of Teach First’s Innovation Programme and the NHS Digital Health.London accelerator, and was named one of the 100 UK Digital Leaders in 2020 and won two AbilityNet Tech4Good Awards and two Mayor of London awards in 2019. MeeToo has been featured by The BBC, The Times, The Guardian, and Forbes Magazine. We will represent British social enterprise at EXPO2021.
Early intervention scalable mental health support solutions are desperately needed because one in six young people has a diagnosed mental health condition (MHCYP, 2020), one in four teenagers self-harms (MCS, 2020) and suicide is a leading cause of death (ONS, 2020). 75% of adult mental illness begins by age 18 (Kessler, 2005). Although 20% of young people with mental ill health wait more than six months to receive care from a specialist (Mandalia, 2018), £45m a year is wasted through missed CAMHS appointments (Children’s Society, 2017). An app is the obvious delivery mechanism for youth mental health support because 90% of young people own a Smartphone (Ofcom, 2015).
