Salary: £33,654 – £41,826 (P1 – P5)

Rossie is a multidisciplinary organisation which aims to help vulnerable children and young people prepare for independent living. We provide accommodation, bespoke care and individualised education, ensuring all areas of our young people’s health are being met. We have been caring for boys, aged 10-18, since 1857 and boys and girls, aged 10-18 since 1984. We are committed to helping our young people in care build strategies to cope with their past, while they prepare for their future. We deliver all our services in a safe and nurturing environment where our young people can grow, develop and thrive, at their own pace.

We are looking to recruit two Teachers, Primary or Secondary qualified, either subject specific or of General subjects, although preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the following disciplines: Art and Design, RMPS, Social Subjects or The Sciences.

You will engage young people in programmes and courses of learning leading to nationally recognised Certification and Qualification. You will promote the welfare of all young people within Rossie. Meet the requirements of both local and National Advice and Legislation for learners who require Additional Support for Learning. As required, you will contribute to the continuous improvement development and delivery of all services provided by the school and contribute to the development and delivery of new cross service multi-disciplinary initiatives. The preferred candidates must also have a preparedness to develop and learn in line with organisational and role requirements.

The successful GTC registered candidates will assist in delivering A Curriculum for Excellence in a multi-disciplinary organisation.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the delivery, administration and development of agreed subject courses, units and learning programmes within the context of A Curriculum for Excellence and leading towards learner attainment within nationally recognised qualifications:

• Establishing, monitoring, evaluating and continually improving standards of subject courses, educational interventions and their delivery to assigned classes;
• Incorporate planning, developing and evaluating Health and Wellbeing outcomes within the subject and across the curriculum – where appropriate, imbed Literacy and Numeracy in subject course and programmes;
• Assessing, recording and reporting on learner progress and attainment;
• Maintain subject documentation: Handbooks, Development and Action plans;
• Administration of arrangements in relation to National Examinations – preparedness of young people.

Teach class groups and deliver subject lessons; ensuring that appropriate progression routes, personalisation, choice and inclusion opportunities exist for young people with complex and challenging learning needs:

• Promote positive, solution focused approaches towards overcoming barriers to learning and positive growth;
• Develop and deliver individual educational programmes, in line with national advice and guidance, appropriate to the age and ability of the young person – Broad General/Senior phase;
• Develop and deliver a range of experiences aimed at promoting social and life skills and therefore the confidence and independence of the young person;
• Liaise closely with education colleagues and other professionals concerned with the welfare of the young person – Team Around the Child / Looked After Children’s Reviews / Children’s Hearings / Planning Meetings;
• Develop close ways of working between care and education staff to promote cohesive approaches to meeting learner needs;
• Attend educational reviews and provide individual pupil reports;
• Develop assessment and record keeping practices;
• Set and monitor appropriate targets for individual pupils;
• To present pupils for internally and externally graded assessments and examinations;
• Actively contribute to the Health and Wellbeing of all young people.

Raise levels of progression, attainment and achievement for young people placed at Rossie:

• With reference to local and National guidance, ensure consistency of standard in the progression of young people through nationally recognised qualifications;
• To provide additional one to one support for young people to ensure access to curricular opportunities;
• Deliver lessons with a stimulating and creative approach which are appropriately differentiated in order to motivate learners within a Social, Emotional and Behavioural context.

Work collaboratively with all colleagues to enable positive change for young people placed at Rossie:

• Undertake Key Teacher responsibilities for assigned pupils;
• Seek opportunities to promote ‘inclusive’ approaches to managing challenging behaviour;
• Provide guidance for all pupils in accordance with education and care policies;
• Liaise with care staff, parents, social workers and or other professional agencies as required.

Undertake all necessary administration, planning and management of curricular subjects:

• Maintain records of work for each young person;
• Monitor, evaluate, record, and report on young person progress, achievement and attainment on nationally recognised courses and units;
• Contribute to educational improvement planning and development.

As a reflective practitioner, maintain high standards of competency through career long professional learning:

• Identify personal/professional development needs and undertake appropriate training as identified through PRD process;
• To undertake development of the educational curriculum in line with National guidance;
• To contribute to the professional development of colleagues through collegiate and team working arrangements;
• Seek research and development opportunities to share good practice.

Ensure critical adherence to Health, Safety and Security in all aspects of your role:

• Safeguard pupil and staff health and safety;
• Promote positive behaviours and maintain discipline among young people within education setting.
