PROGRAM DESIGN: RTS facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The primary functions of the Education Specialist are twofold i) to train and support program Instructors and ii) ensuring lessons are age appropriate and in line with the organization’s mission.
ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:
Supervisor: Site Director
Supervises: Instructors for Middle School Students (ages 10 – 13)
Max Hours: 37 per week (June 27, 2022 – August 12, 2022)
Days: 5 per week, Monday – Thursday (11am–6pm), Friday (8am–6pm)
Location: 160 East 120 Street New York, NY 10029
Compensation: $25 per hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to plan and coordinate program schedule.
Assist with supervising and evaluating instructors.
Train and guide Instructors and provide proper feedback.
Develop and implement lesson plans for Instructors.
Ensure all lesson plans are structured and age appropriate.
Ensure all lesson plans are in line with organization’s mission and vision.
Conduct ongoing professional development trainings on program content.
Provide tools or strategies for instructors to use to enhance student achievement.
Plan and implement staff development relating to instructional strategies and classroom management.
Knowledge of the principals and practices of current educational trends in curriculum design.
Work collaboratively with Site Directors to oversee implementation and delivery of curriculum.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Education to develop the College and Career Development curriculum.
Work collaboratively with school administration and related organizations to gain and provide access to services for the youth.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Site Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in Education or related field.
At least two years of experience in implementing structured programming for middle school.
At least three years of experience in program curriculum and professional development.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Google Docs.
Strong skills in facilitation, workshop design, and lesson planning.
