Summary: This position is a key role in controlling business costs and enabling precise and timely financial reporting. This person will work closely with Senior management, manage AP, AR, Inventory, and coordinate with our external accountants. The position also provides hands-on financial support to operations and logistics management to enhance their ability to make informed financial decisions and execute business objectives.

About the Company

This emerging nutritional products company consists of two divisions: Online retail and wholesale distribution. Our online store offers natural wellness products for sustainable living in both Canada and the US. We also wholesale products to retailers, and on Amazon.com.

You will have the opportunity to learn about the operations of a growing international ecommerce company. We operate in two currencies and have both US and Canadian corporate entities.

Below is what we’re looking for in the successful candidate:

1. Be an Expert

• Provide financial leadership to the company
• Understand the operation of both our Canadian and USA companies and the financial relationship between the two
• Make recommendations on payables activity & establish policies
• Be transparent & impeccable with work, attitude and communication
• Be available to staff needs and questions
• Be an administrator and super-user of our ERP system
• Take ownership of inventory tracking and maintenance
• Take charge of intercompany transactions

2. Leadership

• Lead/train junior accounting staff and act as a mentor
• Guide sales and customer service staff through the process of adopting new policies (change management)
• Prepare and present monthly financial packages
• Divisional P&L
• Variance analysis

3. Tax reporting

• Remit GST, state sales tax and US state tax filings
• Coordinate with our external accounting firm in regards to year-end tax filings as well as co-ordinate the year end audit.

4. Manage & Improve

• Analyze, create & streamline processes to establish a smooth flow of data
• Conduct ongoing research & learning of business practices & tax laws for US and Canada
• Delegate & instruct processes to staff to ensure adherence to procedures
• Negotiate & reduce fees & unnecessary charges
• Communicate regularly with Senior Management and Sales and Marketing Directors on budgets & allocation of costs
• Develop & perform internal audits to ensure accuracy and adherence to company policy
• Identify problems and communicate/troubleshoot issues as they arise
• Set monthly/weekly goals and prioritize tasks as needed

Skills / traits needed:

• Experience with preparing consolidated financial statements is an asset
• In-depth understanding of accounting for inventory (Consignment, Dropship, 3PL and more)
• Experience with E-Commerce is a must
• Able to quickly pickup on new technology and software
• Prior SOS inventory experience is an asset
• Advanced proficiency with Excel
• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
• Exhibits confidence in self and others
• Willing to “roll up your sleeves” when necessary
• Doesn’t mind “putting on different hats” to get the job done
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Organized, proactive and able to anticipate costs & changes occurring within the business

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance, CPA designation required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a management role
• Prior work experience in a multi-subsidiary, dual-currency environment
• Nutritional product manufacturing and distribution experience an asset
• Experience working in an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented organization is an asset
