The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Controller, APAC who will be based in Yatala, QLD.

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Control, the Controller, APAC oversees the accounting operations and controls compliance for APAC entities to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the reported financial results and ensuring that reported results comply with US GAAP. In this leadership role, the Controller, APAC will plan and direct the APAC Control Team to produce complete and accurate financial information for internal and external financial statements as well as be the owner of the controls for the APAC region as it relates to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and overall control environment considerations.

The Controller, APAC liaises regularly with the Financial Operations, Planning and Analytics and Global Finance teams to make decisions and implement operational, business and control improvements. As a leader for the APAC Controllership team, the Controller, APAC will be responsible to understand the business and its processes to be able to speak to the financial results. The Controller, APAC leads the team in a manner consistent with Ritchie Bros. core values and leads a customer-focused culture while achieving the departmental and team’s overall objectives.

In this role you’ll:

• Provide meaningful insight and analysis of financial results to management
• Oversee the APAC operations control environment by continuously monitoring and seeking for improvements and lead implementations of improvements
• Lead the development and enhancement of operational accounting systems, processes and procedures
• Build partnerships with key stakeholders in the organisation to address new issues as they arise and provide advice for resolution
• Liase with the Global Accounting team on technical accounting matters
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of financial results and provide valuable business insights for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
• Ensure compliance of all control procedures, accounting processes and systems integrity to support accurate financial and management reporting as well as implementation, development and sign-off of appropriate SOX controls
• Manage direct reports to maximise skill development, individual strengths and achievement of team goals while maintaining a high level of customer service
• Drive organisational, departmental and team initiatives by providing input and contributing to development and implementation
• Manage internal and external audit for controls and financial audit processes.

Here’s what you bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting
• CPA
• Excel – Advanced
• Oracle Experience is an asset
• Payroll and Expense systems
• 5-7 years post qualification experience.
• 5-7 years proven leadership experience in management role.

This role will require you to:

• Determine application of accounting policies and procedures to operational decisions regarding revenue, expenses, and other financial statement implications
• Manage, coach, mentor and develop team
• Develop and implement enhancements including systems, controls, and processes
• Timely evaluation and resolution of various issues such as accounting for new business ventures and day-to-day issues such as system challenges
• Identifying gaps and providing solutions (e.g. Control Program, process gaps)
• Management of efficiency and timeliness of deliverables within time constraints.
