We are looking for a Specialist, Agreements to drive delivery of Rio Tinto’s Weipa operations’ commitments against land use agreements in partnership with Traditional Owner groups and agreement coordination committees.

The Weipa Communities and Social Performance team has accountability for many functions including agreement implementation and compliance, cultural heritage management, Indigenous employment and development, community relations, internal and external communications and community engagement for growth and closure planning studies. The role provides support to several functions within the team and across other business units.

This role is a great opportunity for a highly organised, people focused individual who has strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work with others to implement Rio Tinto’s land use agreements.

Reporting to the Manager within the Communities and Social Performance team, you will be:

• Applying professional knowledge and expertise to advise on agreement commitments and deliver key Communities and Social Performance initiatives, systems and/or programs
• Leading Rio Tinto compliance of agreement commitments and ensuring obligations are actively tracked and managed
• Collaborating on complex challenges that require critical thinking and reasoning skills
• Using business software applications to prepare presentations, correspondence and reports
• Delivering training and improving agreement-related processes and procedures
• Representing the organisation at community meetings and/or forums
• Coordinating programs and activities to promote mutual beneficial outcomes with key partners
• Supporting continuation of favorable relationships with community leaders and internal and external stakeholders.

What you will bring

This role will suit an effective communicator and collaborator who pays meticulous attention to detail and can efficiently manage competing priorities, understand stakeholder needs and prioritise accordingly.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• Leadership experience
• Previous experience working in an agreements or community relations related role, with responsibility for management of obligations, negotiations and dispute resolution
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment with confidentiality and respect
• High level of computer literacy
• Excellent organisational skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

It would be beneficial if you have:

• Experience working with Aboriginal people, local communities and organisations
• Tertiary qualification in Law or Legal Studies or a relevant related discipline
• Background working with native title or Indigenous land use agreements in a compliance-based role

Construction of the Amrun mining operation, located 40 kilometres southwest of Weipa, was completed in late 2018 expanding our bauxite operations to continue production from one of the world’s premier bauxite deposits.
