About the role

The Technology Development team in Group Technical – Services and Delivery works across a broad range of unique mining technologies that include machine automation projects such as the Autonomous Drilling System, real-time data platforms and 3D visualisation systems.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join an established development team tasked with the ongoing development of our Web product. The role shall report to the Principal Advisor – Web Development, and shall undertake duties including:

• Develop web code (JavaScript/HTML/CSS) as well of the server-side code (Python/Django Framework) accompanied by development of the database server code (SQL).
• Ensure end user requirements are comprehensive, analysed and future-proofed to drive business growth
• Responsible for the design and implementation of technical solutions, including end to end web development, testing, implementation, training and support
• Plan, build and maintain web platforms using web programming, scripting, authoring, content management and file transfer software
• Develop web based user interfaces, while incorporating data from various back-end services and databases
• Support technology development in testing and productionisation
• Support product fixes and enhancements as part of technology product development
• Participate and influence product strategies and technology architecture
• Review and highlight associated limitations of existing software and solutions.

This role is based in Perth, Western Australia, out of our Central Park office, working Monday – Friday. We support and encourage flexible working arrangements.

The Mine team is highly collaborative and work in close partnership with Rio Tinto’s global R&D community, and external bodies such as research institutes, suppliers and industry partners.
