POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for overseeing the accounting department’s operations and financial reporting, including consolidations for multiple financial entities. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure transactions are recorded accurately, in correct GL accounts, to facilitate accurate financial reporting. The Assistant Controller directly manages the Accounting Manager, and indirectly oversees staff accountants, accounts payable personnel, and accounts receivable personnel; and is responsible for managing the accounting team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Reports directly to the Controller. Coordinates activities with other departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preparing and consolidating financial statements.
• Establishing and maintaining best practice internal controls, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
• Managing all aspects of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and document retention.
• Providing accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting and analyses.
• Coordinating or assisting with the budget process.
• Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Analyzing and reporting cost variances.
• Serving as a liaison to external auditors.
• Assist VP/Controller with treasury management.
• Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Collaborates with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
• Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
• Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
• Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS & CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Bachelor’s degree and CPA required.
• Five years of experience in accounting or finance required.
• Prior direct management of employees required.
• Advanced Excel skills are required for this position.

Work Environment

The work environment in which one will perform the essential functions of this position in a climate-controlled office setting.
