Due to internal career progression we are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in different accounting functions and develop a foundation for a career in accounting. In this role you will be apart of a strong finance team and be supported in your growth and development.

We are looking for

A committed team player who has an Accounting or Business degree or relevant experience in financial and management accounting. You will have competent numeracy and literacy skills to ensure you are able to support the Finance team in this role. You will be someone who has great attention to detail. You will have advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite and other computer based programs to construct and present financial data. This role requires high level written and verbal communication skills as you work in a consultative manner with the wider organisation and your team. Your ability to learn quickly, be flexible and your exceptional time management skills will see you excel in this role.

We are seeking someone who has:

• Recognised degree in accounting/business or three or more years of relevant experience in financial and management accounting.
• Current Class C Drivers Licence.

About the Role

Full time: 70 hour fortnight

Salary: Range from $61,760 to $80,345 pa + 10% super (negotiable dependent on skills and experience)

The primary purpose of the role is to provide high level assistance to ensure the delivery of quality financial and management accounting functions to meet Council and legislative requirements.

This includes:

• Assist with financial and management accounting functions to meet Council and legislative requirements.
• Maintain the financial integrity of Council’s Asset Management System, including processing additions, disposals and monthly depreciation.
• Provide annual financial reporting for plant and equipment assets.
• Complete various monthly and annual returns to comply with Council’s legislative requirements.
• Undertake monthly reconciliations of the stores system and assist with stocktakes as required.
• Assist the Financial Accountant with the financial aspects of the Property and Rating (P & R) module, including monthly reconciliations.
• Assist the Financial Accountant in ensuring the overall maintenance of Council’s cashflow requirements, including investment analysis.
• Complete daily bank statement receipting and process weekly internal costings.
• Provide assistance and relief to the Creditors Coordinator as required.
• Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change, demonstrating a willingness to do what is required to deliver quality outcomes, within your skills, competencies and training.
• Proactively participate as a team player to contribute towards the achievement of team work objectives.
• Work in a safe manner having regard for self and others and contribute to and comply with Council’s WHS policies/procedures/practices.
• Ensure works comply with quality systems and relevant policies, procedures, practices and legislation.
