Definition: Under general direction, leads, supervises, directs, and coordinates the accounting operations (financial reporting, general ledger, investments, accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue collection, payroll, and fixed asset maintenance) of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA). This position is responsible for the organization’s general financial system including the preparation and publication of the RTAA’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Examples of What You Will Do:

• Perform and/or oversee the recording of financial information into RTAA’s financial system, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue collection, payroll, and fixed asset maintenance.
• Recruit, train, and instruct staff in accounting and fiscal techniques and procedures; provide leadership, motivation, and management supervision to staff; promote departmental efficiency and effectiveness, develop competent and motivated teams; encourage professional development of staff through training, goal setting, and performance reviews.
• Develop and implement investment policies and procedures; analyze financial strategies for investments; communicate with banks and brokerage firms regarding investments, purchases, rollovers, and wire transfers; update investments, maturities, and investment income to the financial system.
• Formulate and communicate presentations for a variety of audiences, including the Board of Trustees.
• Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
• Manage the preparation of the ACFR; oversee preparation and review financial documents to obtain Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement.
• Participate in the development and administration of RTAA’s operating budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures.
• Perform complex accounting duties including review and maintenance of financial data for various funds, budget monitoring, journal entries, and cash reconciliation; responsible for organizing and developing year-end comprehensive financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Research, collect, compile, and analyze information from various sources to prepare comprehensive technical records, reports and summaries that present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make recommendations.
• Participate in the development and implementation of new or revised accounting programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation.

Salary: Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. $86,800 – $109,300, annually with opportunity for merit-based increases up to a maximum of $131,900.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in finance, accounting, statistics, business administration or a related field.

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in directing a major financial program in a large-scale operation AND two (2) years of management and supervisory experience.

Required Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license strongly preferred.
