Reed College seeks a dynamic and student-oriented Science Librarian to collaborate closely with faculty and students in the sciences. This role supports teaching, research, and scholarly communication, providing extensive support to seniors who are completing their theses. This is an exciting job, working with talented science faculty and students, and with a collaborative team of research librarians. This position reports to the Director of Research Services. Who You Are

• You have at least two years’ experience as a librarian and are knowledgeable about research methods in one or more of the sciences.
• You have experience developing and managing electronic and print collections, preferably in the sciences.
• You look forward to teaching and have experience in instructional design, lesson planning, and assessment practices.
• You have strong knowledge of science lab methods and practices.
• You are excited to work with faculty to develop library instruction that supports a robust undergraduate science curriculum.
• You are collaborative and have experience reaching out to others to initiate partnerships. You enjoy being part of a team and cultivating relationships.
• You hold an MLS or MLIS degree. You have a science degree or demonstrated experience doing scientific research.
• You take personal responsibility for contributing to an equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive atmosphere in your area.
• You are self-aware. You understand your own culture, identity, biases, prejudices, power, privilege, and stereotypes.

What You’ll Do

• Provide research support to students and faculty in the sciences including biology, physics, and chemistry.
• Work closely with students providing in-depth research support from introductory science courses to the required senior thesis.
• Plan, implement, and assess library instruction in the classrooms and lab spaces.
• Serve as the college’s subject matter specialist on scientific reference materials. Develop and manage the library’s scientific collections in collaboration with faculty and Collection Services Department.
• Participate in the library’s scholarly communication efforts including citation management support, identifying evolving modes of scholarship, and taking an active role in the senior thesis submission and retention process.
• Provide research support at service desks and through individual consultations, assist in student workers management, and participate in library outreach programs as part of the Research Services team.
• Promote equity and ensure equal access in every aspect of your work.
