We are currently recruiting for Ambulance Dispatchers to Join the East of England Ambulance Service Trust in Bedford.
Training for this role starts on 27th November in Bedford for 2 weeks.
• £11.53 – Daytime
• £14.99 – Evenings and Saturday
• £18.45 – Sunday and Bank Holidays
Hours: Full-time, variable shift pattern – This is a 24/7 operation and therefore you will be required to be flexible, 37.5 hours working week including nights and weekends.
Ongoing temporary position to permanent after 12 weeks after demonstrating great performance
Emergency Dispatcher Responsibilities:
• Form part of a team of Dispatchers who each provide management of front-line Trust resources over a specific geographical area, covering as a whole, the East of England region, on a 24/7 basis (365 days per year) working rotating shifts.
• Have an understanding and appreciation of the model of high performance ambulance design to support and enhance effective and efficient utilisation of Trust resources.
• To manage and deploy resources to (and during), emergency, urgent and routine incidents in accordance with national and local policy, procedure and protocol.
• Manage and communicate with operational staff by assigning them to emergency.
• Responsible for the dispatching of the appropriate level of care provided to the public through the pre-positioning of emergency medical resources.
Emergency Dispatcher Qualities:
• At least 2 years experience within a customer care environment
• Desired – Previous experience in a logistics/call centre environment
• Desired – Previous experience in the NHS

• A very resilient character, who is calm under pressure
• High standards of personal professionalism
• Good judgement of dealing with emergency situations
• Ability to maintain concentration and focus for sustained periods
• Empathy and compassion
• Can learn new systems and procedures quickly and effectively
• As you will be working in a 24 hour call centre, shifts will be long and often unsocial (12 hour shifts).
• You will at times also be required to work weekends and bank holidays.
The Emergency Operation Centre is located in Hellesdon, so be aware if you don’t drive you may have difficulty using public transport due to the worked hours.
