Location: Worthing, West Sussex

Hours: 20 Hours per week, flexible, Term Time Only

Salary: £30,000 per annum Pro-rata ( £15,000 actual )

Summary of role

Red Balloon Worthing will be the newest Centre within the Red Balloon Educational Trust family and we are seeking a Head of Centre to turn our new site into a thriving educational and wellbeing space for up to 20 young people.

As a Centre Teacher, you will be confident to deliver the core curriculum (KS3 and KS4) to our students in either 1:1 or small group setting. As the Red Balloon of the Air (Red Balloons online provision) Liaison, you will help to coordinate with Air Mentors and other Air staff to arrange for Air students to visit the Centre.

Many Red Balloon colleagues describe our work as the purest form of teaching they have experienced. This is because of the flexibility to start with the interests of the young person through our “negotiated curriculum”.

We are proud to be a niche provider and celebrate the flexibility this brings to our practice. Our teachers, though specialists, enjoy cross-curricular education and use every opportunity to develop a students’ love of learning.

Recruitment at the Centre

The Teacher and Air Liaison role will be one of several key appointments in the coming months. Recruitment has also commenced for a Head of Centre, Deputy Head, Centre Business Officer and Housekeeper/Cook, so you will not be starting this journey alone.

With a maximum student number of 20, we expect that the staff numbers will reach approximately 15/20 within the next 12-18 months and will consist of Teaching, Therapeutic, Administrative and Support staff. Our Centres also benefit from the incredible support of local volunteers. Our amazing team in Worthing have literally knocked down walls, painted them and turned once cold and dark spaces into bright and airy teaching spaces, which means we are almost ready to be open for business and taking its first students.

Some key responsibilities of this role include:

• Prepare and collaborate in the preparation of lessons, resources and schemes of work for GCSE and other courses, such as ASDAN, for KS3 and KS4 learners

• Teach and facilitate one-to-one and small-group negotiated learning sessions for young people in face-to-face environments

• Monitor, record and evaluate student progress to support and inform future planning

• Coordinate with local Red Balloon of the Air mentors and other RBAir staff to accommodate and support Red Balloon of the Air students visiting the site for in-person study, therapy or mentoring sessions as part of their provision plans

• Communicate with the Centre cook to advise when numbers will increase for meals due to Air students and mentors attending the site

To be considered for this role as a minimum you will need:

• To be QTS Qualified

• To be Qualified to Degree level in a specialist subject (Maths, Science or English)

• To have the desire to create and develop an exceptional educational environment.
