We are hiring for a Senior Payroll Accountant for a global entertainment company to oversee the payroll administration of their Canadian operations. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Senior Accountant is responsible for monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s Canadian payroll processing and payroll accounting objectives, including interfacing with employees, Human Resources, third-party services providers, external auditors, and provincial and federal agencies. The employee’s time is divided between planning, coordinating and managing the functions of payroll, performing the accounting for compensation-related journal entries and account reconciliations, and managing relationships to drive initiatives across the organization. This position requires an extremely detail oriented person with significant knowledge of Canadian payroll administration, including provincial and federal regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares semi-monthly Canadian payroll data for our Toronto and Montreal studios.
• Ensures accurate and timely payroll in compliance with all applicable wage and hour laws.
• Interface with employees regarding any payroll issues/questions.
• Process qualified garnishments/wage withholdings in accordance with the applicable garnishor orders.
• Process RRSP payroll contributions (employee & employer).
• Coordinate with HR on leave of absences and process applicable ROEs and any necessary top-off calculations (if applicable).
• Process final termination pay and applicable ROEs.
• Reconcile payroll prior to submission and validate confirmed reports.
• Process ad hoc payments for terminations, bonuses, etc.
• Monitor regular tax filings with various jurisdictions and entities.
• Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits.
• Manage the accurate and timely year-end reporting of T4s, RL1s, and other wage and labor filings.
• Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed.
• Assists in preparing compensation-related journal entries and account reconciliations as part of monthly close, as well as account fluctuation analysis on a quarterly basis.
• Push for process improvements within payroll, obtaining buy-in from impacted parties through relationship-building and strong communication skills.
• Assist or lead in the planning, coordination, improvement and implementation of payroll systems integrations in the HRIS platform, Workday, as well as in the case of any acquisitions or dispositions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent years of experience.
• 4+ years of processing Canadian payroll experience.
• Working knowledge of Canadian payroll best practices.
• Strong knowledge of federal and provincial regulations.
• Working knowledge of Workday, ADP and/or Dayforce HRIS platforms
• Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel
• Working knowledge of accounting impacts of payroll and related items
• Strong work ethic and team player
• High degree of professionalism and communication skills
• Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

NICE TO HAVE

• PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) designation with the National Payroll Institute with specific training/completed courses related to Quebec payroll
• French speaking highly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree or minor in Accounting
• Working knowledge of Oracle
• Experience in Quebec payroll administration

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
