Child Advocate Mentor

Organization: Real Champions Inc. Mentoring Program

Salary: $30k to $40k

Hours: Full time

Location: Charleston, SC- Ridgeland, SC

Reports to: Senior Program Director

Position Description: The Child Advocate Mentor will be responsible for developing a strong relationship with 8 children, who are the most vulnerable. The mentor will collaborate with RCI’s leadership, the child’s family members, partnering schools, and other community members to ensure the success of each child. The mentor will serve as an advocate for the child in the community and in his or her school.

Position Requirements:

• Passion, expertise, dedication, and/or experience with working with vulnerable children starting at age 5 to 18 and families is highly preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred
• Must be available during scheduled work hours to ensure the safety of the child and support of program staff, as needed.
• 21 years of age and older and able to commit to at least 3 years of mentoring services.
• Able to complete the application and orientation process including interview, training, and background checks.
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

Primary Duties:

• Mentor and advocate for 8 most vulnerable children. This includes face-to-face contact with each child for 4 (direct/indirect) hours each week. This also includes meeting with teachers and school counselors, attend events, trips, and/or activities of children and families.
• Assist Program Director or his/her designee, develop individualize short- and long-term goals for each child.
• Participate in individual and group observation with Program Director to provide updates and progress toward outcome achievement.
• Participate in family/team monthly meetings to discuss the child’s progress, unmet needs, and support needed to enable the child to achieve outcomes and goals outlined in the Individual Development Plan.
• Attend weekly reflection meetings with Program Director and staff.
• Attend on-site and off-site training as required by the Program Director
• Make referrals as needed, to support the development and program of the child and family.
• Documentation of services and activities the children are engaged in and the child’s progress toward achievement of goals.
• Additional duties as assigned by Program Director or Senior Program Director.’
