RAND Australia has a unique opportunity for early and mid-career Researchers and Analysts to join our team and contribute to our policy research and analysis efforts. Based primarily in Canberra, RAND Australia Researchers are highly skilled and motivated individuals that work with a global multidisciplinary team to address complex analysis issues across a variety of contexts at a national and international scale.  As a researcher or analyst, you would have opportunities to engage with stakeholders enabling direct impact on decisionmaking through objective research and analysis.

Requirements of the Positions:

Key attributes of successful candidates will include:

• Research experience in relevant areas of public policy, ideally associated with defence, national security, regional security, emerging technologies, acquisition and cost analysis, or veteran well-being;
• Excellent analytical skills;
• The ability to work independently as well as a part of a larger multidisciplinary research teams across multiple sites and continents;
• Experience in research design and execution;
• Ability to address complex policy research issues; and
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

For applicants at the mid career level, previous leadership experience is desirable, including an ability to mentor and develop junior staff, manage projects and positively represent RAND in interactions with a broad range of clients.

Working as part of a small team, the ideal candidates will bring demonstrated analytical, research, thought leadership, system analysis and quantitative skills. Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of government, academic and multi-sector stakeholders are also keys to success in this role.  

Successful applicants are required to possess at least a Master’s degree with thesis and preferably two or more years of relevant work experience in areas relevant to the position requirements. A PhD accompanied with previous experience working with the federal government is preferred.

The ability to secure a government security clearance is required to undertake the full responsibilities of this role – as such you must be an Australian Citizen at the time of applying. Additionally, the successful candidate will need to successfully complete a background check which includes a qualification verification and police check.
