Racine Unified School District Hiring for – Online Mentor Teacher at Racine County, WI Full Time

Required Certifications/Licenses:

Valid with any Tier II Wisconsin Department of Instruction license with the 9-12 high school grade range

Position Purpose

Facilitate student learning in the nexus between technology, pedagogy, assessment and content while focusing on student achievement in a virtual learning environment. The teacher will focus on all curriculum areas.

Formal Education

Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred)

Experience

Has taken an online course and applies experiences as an online student to develop and implement successful strategies for online learning (Demonstrated by transcript or certificate)

Has facilitated an online course and applies experiences as an online instructor to develop and implement successful strategies for online learning (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Uses word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software effectively
• Uses printed, electronic, and telephonic communications with appropriate etiquette
• Uses synchronous and asynchronous tools (e.g., discussion boards, chat sessions, interactive whiteboards, web conference sessions) effectively
• Troubleshoots typical software and hardware problems (e.g., passwords, downloads)

Essential Functions

• Plans, designs and incorporates strategies to encourage active learning, interaction, participation and collaboration in the online environment
• Provides online leadership in a manner that promotes student success through regular feedback, prompt response, and clear expectations
• Models, guides, and encourages legal, ethical, safe and healthy behavior related to technology use
• Understands and is responsive to students with special education needs in the online classroom
• Provides consultation when creating and implementing assessments in online learning environments in ways to assure validity and reliability of instruments and procedures
• Modifies instructional methods and content to guide student learning by using data and findings from assessments and other data sources
• Collaborates actively and effectively with colleagues
• Develops and delivers assessments, projects, and assignments that meet standards-based learning goals with Mathematics as a priority.
• Demonstrates strategies and techniques that actively engage students in the learning process (e.g. team problem-solving, in-class writing, analysis, synthesis and evaluation instead of passive lectures)

Work Environment: Busy Office and School Environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to spend up to 70% of the day walking.
• Able to walk or run quickly through hallways and stairwells in an emergency situation.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, respond to active crisis situations and support student movement.
• Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance
• Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building
• Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment
• Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone
• Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm
• Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
