Job Summary

Quilted Health is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Obstetrical Coder to join our growing team. In this role you will be responsible for accurately creating patient claims by assigning ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes based on provider documentation, following appropriate coding guidelines, and payer policies and procedures. This role is essential to the revenue cycle, while preserving the confidentiality of our patients. We look to this OB Coder to help uphold federal, state and county regulations as well as help update and maintain internal policies and practices. Our ideal candidate has experience in healthcare, understands the hospital systems and can uphold those connections on behalf of Quilted Health. This role works closely with HR, clinical and operations leaders, finance, and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Processes encounters from the electronic worklist. Review patient charts and documents using various EHRs.

• Assigns ICD-10 codes, CPT codes and HCPCS codes accurately according to coding, CMS and federal guidelines, while creating claims with appropriate Place of Service (POS) codes as required by various payers.

• Ensure ICD-10 codes are accurate to the highest level of specificity and assure codes are sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations.

• Verifies patient insurance coverage, eligibility and benefits as required by the individual insurance companies as needed.

• Queries providers and clinical staff to ensure all reportable services are documented.

• Serves as a resource to clinicians, clinical and office staff regarding coding and insurance questions.

• Corresponds timely and appropriately with business office staff to correct errors on accounts before or after submission for reimbursement.

• Track and escalate coding and system issues to the Coding Manager in a timely manner.

• Onboard new providers with coding basics through remote training sessions.

• Conduct coding training programs on an annual basis.

• Create coding Job Aids for providers performing services in clinic and hospital settings.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

• High School diploma (or equivalent) and successful completion of a coding certification program.

• Required certifications with CCS, CCS-P or CPC.

• Required 3-5 years OB coding in a clinic or hospital setting.

• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology

• Commitment to a high level of customer service

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS.

• Solid oral and written communication skills

• Able to work independently

• Ability to work on various billing applications systems, EHRs and a willingness to learn.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of health systems and administrative functions, including phones, files, reports, correspondence, presentations, etc.

• Knowledge in creating ICD-10 and CPT training programs for staff and providers.

• Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with team members at all levels with varying educational, ethnic, professional, and economic backgrounds.

• Acute attention to detail, self-starter and able to navigate and prioritize tasks and can proficiently organize and manage timelines.

• Strong administrative, office, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage time and priorities.

• Proven ability to develop process improvements based on known errors or identified risks

• Excellent verbal and written communication and personal interaction skills, with an emphasis on customer service and support.

• Proficiency with MAC applications, Google Drive applications; experience with EHR software, preferably Athena, EPIC and Cerner.

• Ability to work with remote platform products such as Zoom, Zendesk, Slack, and others as needed.

• Knowledge of HIPAA requirements that pertain to client information and client privacy.

• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, manage multiple duties and priorities, and maintain high standards for accuracy, productivity, and confidentiality.

• Demonstrated flexibility, with ability to work effectively with a number of supporting teams.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

• Annual salary range of $59,000-$70,000 depending on years of experience
