First and foremost, Quill was born out of a love for podcasts. They’re informative, educational, inspiring, entertaining, and let’s be honest they make a commute way more enjoyable!

We help launch, grow, and monetize podcasts. After launching in January 2020 with the first and only dedicated freelance marketplace for podcast services, we have expanded to deliver full-service podcast production and marketing services in-house for brands and larger independent podcasts. Some of the clients we have worked with to date include RBC
Disruptors, CIBC, Bay Street Bull, Field Trip Health, and Microsoft. We’ve been covered in publications like The Globe and Mail, Betakit, and BNN Bloomberg, and we recently acquired a production company.

The podcast space has been rapidly growing (35% YOY), transforming the media landscape and presenting an exciting opportunity in a domain that is ripe for disruption. What does it mean to be a Senior Software Developer at Quill?

You’ll report directly to our CTO and work with him and our delivery team to build out features for our hosting and audience growth product called CoHost. CoHost enables brands and professional podcasters to understand the data behind their podcast. We use data to provide your podcasts value and ROI whether that’s time or a dollar amount, motivate you to continue producing content by growing your audience faster and more efficiently, improve your content through key insights and innovative analytics, and unify your podcasting journey into one, easy-to-use platform.

We’re helping to give podcasters access to the data they need to produce better content for their listeners and greater success for yourself.

What your role will encompass

As a Senior Software Developer, you will have a big impact on the success of our product.

This role will encompass:

• Brainstorming and working closely with the product team to come up with new features.
• Ability to communicate with the whole team and help them understand the complexities of the features being built.
• Involvement in architecting, developing, reviewing, and testing of new features for the Cohost platform.

We’re Hiring: Senior Software
Developer (Full-Stack)

• Improving and modernizing the current platform.
• Ability to connect both the frontend and backend systems in a typical Ruby on Rails platform.
• Expertise in async unit testing frameworks for Ruby.
• Experience with Agile development practices.

Our technology stack

• Frontend: TailwindCSS, AlpineJS, Hotwire and Turbo
• Backend: Ruby on Rails
• Cloud: AWS
• Database: Postgres and Redis

Who you are

• Experience:
• 4+ years in building and maintaining production grade applications.
• Ability to write raw SQL commands wherever possible. Should be familiar with modifying and querying complex JSONB data structures on Postgresql. Should have experience managing multiple databases for different parts of the application.
• Understanding the dangers of over-engineering a feature.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails, along with other common libraries such as RSpec,

Capybara, Headless Chrome and Sidekiq.

• Experience with TDD and BDD and having some experience with Cypress.
• Good understanding of the syntax of Ruby and its nuances.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Good understanding of server-side templating languages (Erb).
• A knack for writing clean, readable Ruby code.
• Understand when a monolith vs distributed architecture makes sense for a feature.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD is necessary.
• Good understanding of the best security practices necessary for a web application.
• Good understanding of AWS and Unix based operating systems.

• Nice to haves:
• Having podcast industry experience is a huge plus.
• Experience with Kubernetes is a plus

• UX/UI Design-Focused: You’re passionate about design and user experience. You have a keen eye for design detail and implement responsive design, styling, and animation that contributes to our design system and aligns with our brand. You also think critically from a user’s perspective and ensure we’re implementing the right solutions as you code.
