Quattro Farms is Looking For Crop Foreman at Bow Island, AB Full Time

About this Role:

Essential oils division is part of Quattro’s specialty crop division. We grow primarily mint and dill and potentially other essential oils like coriander. We do the whole farm process of growing the crops which includes managing the crops irrigation, pest management, fertility and all growing needs. We are also responsible for extracting the essential oils from our on-farm still and blending dill and shipping to the buyers. As part of Quattro farms we participate with some operations on the rest of the farm as well as share equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

The Foreman is responsible for assisting the supervisor and completing tasks relating to essential oil crop production, specifically mint and dill. It is the Foreman’s responsibility to manage and train staff for day to day operations.

Job Duties

• Manage and direct staff
• Maintain a positive work environment
• Maintain a safe work environment
• Record information about crops, such as pesticide use, fertilizer use and yields as required
• Inform crop managers of crop progress
• React to change productively and undertake other tasks as assigned
• Ensure all farm equipment meets proper sanitation protocols for certified seed production
• Apply pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers to crops
• Assist in the general repair and maintenance of farm buildings
• Operate farm equipment as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Experience in growing crops mint and dill an asset
• Knowledge of agronomic practices for dryland and irrigated crop farming
• Experience operating farm equipment
• Familiarity with precision agricultural technology
• A positive attitude and good work ethic, with an appreciation for the fact that farming is an occupation that sometimes requires long hours of work, seven days a week, especially during critical periods (planting, harvest, seed shipping, etc.).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, with tight deadlines and varying weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5 years experience in agriculture
• Experience managing employees
• Experience operating farm equipment
• Good mechanical skills
• Open mind and willingness to learn
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Familiarity with food safety and GAP protocols
• Proven organizational skills
• Be able to work as a team
• First Aid
• Class 1 License and clean abstract
• Class 4 Power Engineer (not required)
• Anhydrous – if operating seeding equipment

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
